Default Newbie with lots of questions.

Hey everyone,

I'm Dan from Ottawa, Canada. I'll soon be buying a 93 civic SI HB. I intend on swapping the engine with a B16A2 (99-00 Civic SIR *canadian version*). Now with the right tools and knowing what you're supposed to do, how long does this swap actually take? Do I need to change the axles? mounts? Are there any engine bay modifications I have to do or does it "slide right in"? Also, what are the gains from this swap? 1/4 mile times? 0-60? etc.. I intend on making this car a show winner and I need to budget my cash well, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

welcome DAN! being a n00bie i'll let you in on some secrets, some peopel on here hate when people dont search long and hard on topics and when simple research will yield simple answers. Just lettign you know so others dont yell your canadian bacon off.

i did a b16 swap on my ek and it basically bolts right in except you need a tranny mount and a 1999/2000 civic Si rear mount. otherwise this swap can take three straight days of wiring pulling and installing and gettign to run. mine took much longer but i didnt have everythign ready to go such as all bolts, harnesses ecu mounts eveyrthign you'd need.

so do some research on what youll need and make damn sure you got it all. best thing is to buy evcerything off of the same car so youll have whatever came off of tht one. a friend ran a 14.5 in his b16 sedan eg.
i ran a 15.0 in my ek

yes you have to change the axles, and yes the engine bolts right in. but your going to have to hack up the wiring quite a bit because your car is OBD1 and the 99-00 SIR is OBD2

You will need the B series axles, the wirign harness with the motor. You can use 94+ Integra Tranny mount and Rear motor mount. You will also need 94+ Integra or 99+ Si Shift linkage, you will also need a ECU. I would try searching around some so you can learn more about the swap before you jump into anything.

awesome, thanks for the info guys. I however have yet another question. I'll be getting the Street Fighter 2 kit for my hatch. Does anyone on here have it or know someone who does? I just wanna know if it fits well or does it need to be trimmed up quite a bit like some other kits on the market. Thanks again! And yes I'll be doing alot more reasearch before I go and blow about $6K CND on a swap

Well he said that he wants to make his car a show winner...but I will say I don't think that kits win shows and you can spend your money better elsewhere (like stripping and painting your entire car before doing the swap) since I think most people like the subtle changes and mostly a CLEAN car.

Why wouldn't I do it? Like I said I wanna make this car a show winner. Believe me I'll be doing alot mroe than just slapping on a kit. I intend on getting it shaved to the body (ie. no lines), shaving the trunk lid and other custom body enhancements. I just wanna know why it's not a "good idea" to put a kit on.

We're not fans of kits here in this site, if you look around, this is more of a technical site, alot of people are here to enhance the performance of their hondas/acuras not into building show cars. It's just the way it is here. ClubSi.com could maybe help you with that, or another site. It's your car, your money, no one is going to tell you what to do with it, it's just that this site does not concentrate on show cars.

Body kits take away from the car, and no matter how hard u try, ur not gonna end up with a completely unique setup, i mean cmon, wouldnt u rather do some engine work with 1200-2500 dollars? or some interior work? its not whats done to the car that wins shows, its HOW its done...

He couldn't be more truthful. If you do get a kit, DO NOT get a cheap fiberglass kit. Make sure its polyurethane.

True. I'll just stick with the performance/technical questions then. Like this one for example. How much do axels usually go for? Can they be from a junk yard or do they have to be brand new? Why get axels in the first place when doing a swap? Can't the stock axels be used?

B-series motors use different axles that your D-series stock engine soyou can get Del Sol VTEC axles, GSR axles, or 99-00 Si axles to work with your swap. Don't get junkyard axles (they won't come with a lifetime warranty like you can get at some stores.) Price is ~$100-$150/axle?

u can't use stock axles cuz they can't handle the power of the swapped motor. they would snap like lil twigs. u can use integra axles.
