Newbie to Honda - Stalling issue on 97 Civic w/ B18C1 Swap
Hi all!
I have tried to search for answers to this but not really finding what I need. I'm sure it's out there already, I'm just not finding it.
Like the title says, I have a 97 Civic with a B18C1 swap. The car will not idle after it is warmed up. It appears to be running rich (smells rich). I can open a vacuum port (pull off a line) and it will idle. When I do get it to idle by pulling off a vacuum line, it wants to bog down when I give it gas and takes a few seconds to catch up.
I'm leaning towards the Coolent Temp sensor, but just not sure. I really don't want to just start throwing money at it and replacing things!
Is there a way to test the Coolent Temp sensor? Voltage?
Thanks for any suggestions!

Old swap (before I bought the car).
No CEL... I have not hooked my puter up to see if there are any codes that did not trip the light.
Thanks!

How long have you owned the car?
What ECU? Does CEL work?

1) Remove passenger kick panel and post picture of label on ECU.
2) Turn key from OFF to ON(II). Does CEL illuminate for 2 seconds and then turn off?

Looks like the wiring is an after market add on.
No CEL.... and my scanner (OBD2) will not read it. It comes up and says "error"!

Are you saying the CEL never turns on?
The scanner won't read an OBD1 ECU, if your P72 ECU is OBD1. And the label on the ECU suggests that it is OBD1.

Yes, the light never came on.
I am a little confused why they would have used an older ECU. The engine and car both are '97's. Any suggestions as to why they would have done that?

Check whether previous owner removed the CEL bulb to hide problems or whether the bulb is burned out. When CEL is fixed, pull the CEL codes by jumping the service connector.
OBD1 ECUs can be modified with chips. This makes tuning programmable.
If you live in a state with strict emissions laws, your car won't pass inspection.

Yep, definitely a OBD1 ECU... Was just looking at the sticky on wiring swaps and the connectors shown in the pics for an OBD1 match mine.

OK...
There was no bulb in the CEL.
So, Reading elsewhere I found that you jumper 2 wires above the ECU to get the codes. What I read said they should have been a black/white and a red/black but mine were black/wht and tan/gry. Is that correct?
I did jumper those and got no codes.

Unscrupulous seller. Bad sign for swap.
^With new bulb installed and CEL working properly?

I have tried to attach a movie of the flashing sequence. I am a little confused by it. I am not sure if it is all one code or 2 codes?
Funny thing happened though... As I was trying to get the codes, I started the car with the connector jumpered. When I did that the car started to idle great and continued to do so. I still have the CEL though...
Have a look and see what you think its telling me the code is.

Codes 10 and 41.
Are the IAT sensor and primary O2 sensor plugged in?
Reset the ECU and drive car to see whether codes return.

OK, makes sense now that I know how to read it. Thanks!
Yeah, everything is plugged in. I will reset and give it a spin.
