Gas Saver FTW!

What's up guys/gals? I'm new to the tech forum and decided to join because i bought a 94 Civic EX over the weekend. As the name says, i bought it mainly for a gas saver as its not much to look at but it was only $1,000 dollars and has under 82K miles.

So seeing that its was only a thousand dollars, it does have its problems. One of them being that the gas gauge is a little messed up. The guy before me installed some white face inserts and told me that when he was asking around on how to install them somebody told him to take the needles off and then do whatever he did. So now the E mark is officially the 1/2 tank mark. What can i do to fix this and how am i to know that its not the floater and he was just telling me his BS story so i would by the car?

Also, how big is the tank in a 94 EX? 12 gallons?

The tank is about 10.9 gallons I believe if it's the same as the 6th gen civic's...

I'd buy a used gauge cluster if possible -- unless you can find out how to fix the needle/gas problem. If it was the floater it would be stuck in one position.

i would just take a gas can to the gas station an fill it up with gas then run the car till it runs out of gas and adjust the needle to empty. quik fix

i say replace the cluster if the needle is unfixable by bleeding the gastank to see where empty is.....werd up

Its funny because i actually thought about the gas can idea or at least to find out when it actually will go empty but then i asked myself how i would know where empty actually was. If anything, i could at least get it closer than where it is.

As far as replacing the cluster, that is what i will more than likely do because for one he didnt even finish the install, my tach isnt white and secondly he broke off the temp. needle too.

Is the odometer part of the cluster or will it stay put when i remove the cluster? I havent had time to take anything apart yet.

wouldn't it just be easier to fill the gas tank and adjust the needle to full?

i agree but where exactly is full, where exactly is empty? Those are my concerns with the matter. So does odometer come out with the guages? I'm guessing not since it is "rollover" style, but im used to working on B-bodies that have electric Odoms. Besides, replacing the whole thing would give me a temp. guage again too.

the entire cluster should come out, all gauges and needles including the odometer.

so whatever cluster you buy to replace it most likely won't have the same mileage. the mileage stays on the cluster.

You can pick up a cluster for pretty cheap. That'd be the easiest.

Also, by looking at your pics, I doubt your car only has 82k miles on it. Perhaps the previous owner switched out the cluster, too.

Get rid of the front bumper and those side skirts
Replace them with OEM ones.

that car needs some serious body work... (rear quarter) i would be worried about underlying damage thats been bondo'd over and left to rust out.

Thanks for the help on figuring out which BK that is. Thats the reason i was askingwas to get rid of it.

I'm a little surprised by the comments ive been recieving though. What do you guys expect for a thousand dollar car? Just curious and yup the wheels are on there way out. Anyone in Indiana that would want to swap straight up? The rims are aluminum 15inch Primes. They have to be worth more than the stock wheels which would make a quick flip for someone who wanted to put the time and effort into it.

um, for a grand you can get a really good eg, honestly.

i spent a grand for my all stock vx hatch....honestly i wouldn't pay more than 1500 for any eg body style.

and that car i wouldn't have paid 500 for.

That depends largely on your area. Locally here, you can't find a "really good eg" for less than $1500. Hard to come by and snatched up as soon as they're posted for sale. For example, I bought an EJ1 w/180k 3 months ago for $1200 (friend's deal), sold it last week with 190k for $2000. It was on the local classifieds for less than 10 hours. And I had people calling me left and right.

Gas Saver - Nice Impala. IMO, that was the last Impala ever made. The new "Impala"/Cavalier/Malibu or whatever the crap it is, is a complete joke.
