new drums installed....weird noise under light braking
i installed new drums on my 95 civic lx yesterday. the shoes werent in terrible shape but the drums were rusted bad. the installation went extremely smooth, but now under light braking, i hear noise coming from the rear of the car, and VERY slight pulsation in the pedal. the noise stops once the pedal is fully depressed. do they just need to be broken in? thanks for you help.

new shoes would be a good idea as well.... that rust is no problem as long as it's on the outside.... they do wear out but the shoes do more so...
anyway, once you change drums/shoes, you need to adjust the shoes... right now your shoes are too close to the drum... basically you're running on brakes... which is not good
there's a gear slider in the upper middle portion of the drum assembly (you'll see it once you take out the drum). You need to rotate that (can't remember in which direction) but try rotating it until your drum can't fit and then stop backing it until the drum fits and then back it a little more
try it out if it works good with park brake and if not, go push the shoes a little more toward the drum... try again, etc. till your adjustment is good
good luck!

Did you scrape the rust off the hubs before installing the new drums?

did you take your drums in to a shop to get them turned? just like front brakes, the rear drums need to be turned every brake job. If the rear shoes were in bad shape? means that the drums had to be out of round as well. In that case it is allways better to just get them done. usually a shop would do that for 10 or 20 bucks, well worth it and no need to worrk about squeak. The vibration you are feeling is most likely from that as well , When you pull e=up the ebrake do you feel the vibration even more? if you do you know what it is Godd luck, easy fix. If you hit the brakes and you are still getting vibration, you could of also heated your front brakes, and possibly need those turned as well. The best way to know where the vibration is coming from is to do that test. Ebrake.l Check that first

the shoes werent in bad shape, the ebrake works fine. the vibration is only under slight braking. if you push the pedal mid-to-all the way down it stops....ebrake stops the vibration as well. i think it may just need an adjustment.

okay. its fixed. the first time i installed them i just set them on, and bolted on the tire. i guess you are suppoed to apply the brakes while bolting the tire on, to make sure in sits evenly. so thats what i did. and no more vibration. thanks.
