Well... I'll try to make this short. Yesterday i decided it was time to do a valve adjustment on my del sol. Got to working on it and it turns out most of the valve clearances were too tight. Well i loosened them to the specified Haynes Book guide of Intake .007-.009 and Exhaust .009-.011. I used .008 for intake and .010 for exhaust. Well after driving it around i now have a clicking/tapping noise from the lifters/valves. When working on it with my uncle(mechanic) the process we followed was TDC Valve 1 then adjusted intake and exhaust. Then did TDC Valve 3 and adjusted the intake and exhaust. Then did TDC Valve 4 and adjusted the intake and exhaust. Then finally did TDC Vavle 2 and adjusted intake and exhaust. Being that we feared that the TDC guide on the cam might be off whe also watched the rotor and also used the old screwdriver in the engine trick to watch the raise and lower of the engine and to assist in TDC recgonition. Well, now the engint is ticking and it is annoying as you wouldnt believe..... I want to fix this but i dont want to risk too tight on my vavles. What would be the best Clearance to set this at to maintain good compression and proper clearance to sound good and run good. I want to tune this to make it the best that it can be. I just need help. Another fear is that he may not of done TDC on the Compression stroke. But i dont know how to tell if it was done wrongly. Any help and walkthroughs would be great. Please let me know. Thank you.
