need to replace timing belt, good quote?
hello, im new here, please let me know if im in the wrong place.
i just bought a 1997 Civic EX coupe with 110,000 miles but unfortunately the previous owner doesn't know if the timing belt has been changed, ever. he didn't have it very long, and never found out from the owner before him if it had been changed. so i am going to change it regardless as i understand if it goes out im in much deeper than just having it replaced right away.
anyways, i got a quote from a local shop with a good reputation that they would replace the following for $750:
-Timing belt
-Timing belt tensioner
-Timing belt tensioner spring
-Waterpump and gasket
-Thermostat and gasket
-Valve cover gasket, sparkplug seals, valve cover seal washers
-Camshaft seal
-Crankshaft seal
-Alternator belt
-Powersteering belt
-A/C belt
-Honda coolant
is it worth the $750, do i need to replace all of that?
tia!

Too much money. Get an estimate for replacing the timing belt, tensioner, and water pump. You can do the rest yourself with the help of this forum. Or if you are adventurous, learn to do it all by searching threads and asking questions. You only need the seals replaced if they are leaking.

Re: need to replace timing belt, good quote?
wow, such quick responses, thank you!
i kind of had the feeling it was a bit high, especially when he said they only do "complete jobs". for that price i think i could have a dealership do all the work.
ive researched the how-to's on this site, and the timing belt is a bit over my head as far as tools go(no air gun, or compressor for that matter). the rest does seem do-able.
on that note, does anyone know of a good shop in the san francisco/bay area that might be able to do the timing belt/water pump for a decent price?
