Need to pull motor out of an EM1. Anybody have a writeup?
Well, I'm going to St. Louis to pick up my car tomorrow and once I get it back here, my dad and I are going to pull the motor to send off to Jeff at Importbuilders.
I have a Helms manual but when the movers came to pack up my stuff that book was the last thing I was thiunking about. I was more worried about what I should and shouldn't take to Korea. Anyway....
If somebody has a link to a step by step writeup of what all is involved in pulling the motor out of an EM1 I'd appreciate it if you could hook me up.
I know it can't be rocket science but a step by step would be appreciated just so everything goes nice and smooth. I don't remember if the Helms had a step by step, but I know for a fact that it would sure as hell help in this case. on me for letting my "bible" get packed up.

Its pretty basic man.. All you do is remove everything thats connect and it will come right out...
Remove :
Axels
shift linkage
and all the engine mounts be sure to do this step last...
disconnect header from cat or remove it completely
unplug all the both sides of the engine harness that goes into the car.. One end plugs into the ecu and the other goes right by the driver side hood holder upper thing.
Remove all the vaccum lines that plug into the back of the intake mani
remove the gas line from the fuel filter
Theres more to it than just this but this is what comes to mind.. It should be pretty obvious of what to do.. Make sure you drain the tranny fluid and oil. If you have any question feel free to PM me...

Alright. Removed the intercooler, charge pipes (found out my turbo has a blown seal), drained the tranny and engine oil. Gonna go look for all the sensors I have to unplug now. Then making a trip up to Autozone to grab a cherry picker. I'll get pics up for you guys later if you want.

well, didn't get any action pics. It was pretty straight forward. I ended up buying a cherry picker. Getting the damn thing out of there even with a couple of 6'+ guys was awkward. God I hope I can hook all the damn sensors and **** back up to where they go. Soooooo many nuts and bolts in zip lock baggies.
Scary.
Scary.
