Need HELP w/ d16z6 into '92 CX swap!
I swapped a d16z6 (which I know runs flawless because I bought it in a running '93 Si that was greatly maintained)) into my '92 CX today. The engine starts up and runs fine, except for these 2 issues I can't solve:
1.) The car seems to be idling high. If I rev it, it dips back into normal-idle range on the down-rev, but then speeds back up. Could my idle control or tps sensor be screwed up or connected wrong? If not, what else?
2.) THIS IS THE BAD ONE: The engine seems to be running VERY rich. It idles fine (minus the high idle issue ), but there are MASSIVE PLUMES OF WHITE SMOKE coming out of the exhaust. The smoke wreaks of gasoline so bad that you can't stand near it or you'll get nautious. I still haven't connected the 4-wire O2 sensor to the ecu yet (still 1 wire), but I don't think that'd be a huge deal enough to create this much rich smell/smoke. What else could this be!?!?
Thanks

for your first problem, check the throttle cable. I know it sounds stupid, but mine did the same thing after we did my head gasket. It would idle high but after i tapped the gas it would idle normal again.
Second problem, throwing any codes? What ecu did you use? Give us some more details.

I'm using the d16z6's stock ecu...P28. I had to splice the Si's harness near the ecu onto the CX's harness at the firewall, because they were both cut. All the colors matched up, though, so that shouldn't be an issue. Any more info y'all may need?

Here's a little help for your one wire to 4 wire o2 sensor poblem (please excuse Jeff's bad spelling lol): http://www.hybridautomotive.com/tech/o2/
And as was previously suggested check the throttle cable and also you may want to clean/blow out your iacv and see if that helps and also check hoses/intake plenum mounting areas for a small vacuum leak. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice guys...I'll try all this tomorrow. That 4-1 O2 link is awesome, so thanks for that! Any other advice, anyone?

no problem, hope it helps, also check out the simple stuff like cap and rotor, did a customer swap last week that had similar symptoms due to cap and rotor.

Yeah I plan on doing the O2 sensor a 'lil later today, but how would I check to see if the MAP sensor is ok? Sorry, I'm sorta a newb in that department Thanks for all the responses, everyone!

Re: (Andres-eh2)
Thanks for all the advice, everyone. I rewired my O2 sensor, MAP, and TPS sensors today, and the car runs ALOT better now. After I get it fully done, I'll run the codes and see if anything still needs to be fixed.

Re: (JDMisGOOD)
if you are running 1 wire o2 on the ecu that requires 4 wire o2, this is what will happen. I know because I experienced this. The car will idle around 1,500 if not more, and once you will tap the gas it drop down. Also it had really choppy idle when it dropped down, I'm not sure but I think it even stalled. Oh yeah it was running rich as hell, you could prolly run like 8 psi of boost and still be fine, lol.
