Default need help quick guys----crank pulley bolt q's

Is the crank pulley bolt on the B16 reverse threaded? ie clockwise loosens and counter-clockwise tightens? Also I've heard that using an impact gun on the bolt is bad for the motor. is this true? If so what is the best way to remove it? Any help is appreciated.

No its not reverse threaded. That bolt is a pain in the ***. Go invest $65 and get yourself a moroso crank pulley tool. It will save you much time and effort and always helps out in the end. Plus it works with B18's, B16's, and H22's. So all in all it is defenitely worth the money.

best way is the impact gun. otherwise you will need to stop the crank from moving somehow, screwdriver in flywheel, or get the tool, or step on the brakes and put in gear while someone loosens it, it's torqued on there to about 130+ ft lbs so its gonna be on there.

it is standard threaded.
lefty loosey as they say.

just removed mine this past weekend.
man that sheeeeeet was on there TIGHT!

I used a hex tool I bough tonline to hold the crank pulley in place, that tool goes on the end of a 1/2" breaker bar, but I suppose you could buy/borrow/rent a chain type of pulley holder.

I slipped a 4 foot long piece of exhaust piping over this breaker bar, giving me 5 feet total of leverage just holding the pulley...
I lodged this jumbo lever arm setup against the ground.

Then with a 19mm deep socket on another breaker bar, I also added a 4 foot pipe to this bar, and gave a few slow pulls...

ta daaaaaaaaaa it came loose in 1/4 turn!
made noises so loud that my roommates thought a beam broke in the basement!
(engine is on a stand downstairs)
and there was a puff of smoke/dust too, man that bolt hasnt moved since my block was asembled in Japan all the way back in late 1993, I think I'm gettin' a bit teary eyed.... sniff sniff...

GOOD LUCK BRO!
its all about leverage! get yourself a 4 foot pipe on the ratchet !

if that bolt has never been taken off before, don't even bother with impact guns. Buy the hex tool!
