(sigh) Look, if you are trying to do the rebuild on the cheap, then just strip your motor down to the bare block, have the cylinders honed, and put the mother back together using the appropriately sized (oversized) pistons and rings. IMO if you dont have a lot of experience in motor building then you should probably not touch the head. You seem to be all over the map with this thread, so if you keep any thing in mind, let it be this: K-I-S-S. KEEP IT SIMPLE, STUPID!
We're done here, right?

ok guys thanx for the info and even thanx for the flameing it helps to..lol so this is what im doing im just rebuilding a b18a block and putting my ctr pistion in with the stock b16 head. later on im going to do alot of head work and get it tuned but for now im just going simple ls/vtec with the ctr pistions. but the shop that is doing the work is going to polish and balance my crank im getting new berings and getting a good clean up on my block.with arp head studs and rod bolts. they are telling me that im going to be able to rev it to 82k safley but i dont think ill take it that high. but one question for yall is (i cant find a good oil pump for a good price so do you think it will hurt to use my b16 one im useing the water pump. they only have like 80k miles on them?) after the sawp im going to get a wideban but should i get a fuel rail, and FPR some one told me with a tune i really dont need them.im not to sure on that thats why im asking.sorry for the noodnes

1. can i use a used oil pump?, oil pumps cost 100$, just get a new one if its a rebuilt engine.

2. if i get it bored out .25 over can i still use a 81mm head gasket? yes.

3. can i get a head gasket from autozone or shoud i just get one from honda? depends on the build, but oem is best. again, this is a $50 part from honda, no sense in going cheap

4. can i run off my stock ecu (2000 civic si)? depends on the engine, you also need to tune this whatever fantasy engine you might build, obd2 and tunning doesn't go good togther.

5. do i really need the magnetic oil drain plug? yes, you don't want metal collecting on the bottom of your pan.

thanx for all your help guys </TD></TR></TABLE>

well the reason im useing a used oilpump is b/c form honda it a $189 part and the reason im wanting to know if the head gasket for autozone will work is b/c the one from honda is $99 oh and trust me i have checked. but thanx for you help you realy have helped me but im still a little iffy on the oil pump i dont have the money to get a new one right away. so if i dont realy beat the $h!t out of my motor i should be fine right? oh and im getting a obd1 ecu with the jumper harness but the rev line is a 9700rpm i know its a little high but it the only one i can get for now so i think if i just take it easy for now i should be fine right.

For one you are going to have to convert to obd1 and get a different ecu. Second its not just a straight slap on a block. Your going to need a way of supplying oil and new head studs, more than likely a 300 dollar lsvtec kit. Third you are going to need to decide if you want to use a different water pump and which timing belt you are going to use.
This is no cheap, simple task for someone who has no experience with this.

Just rebuild the one you have!!!

Replace the valves/retainers get it hones and stick your new pistons in there. KEEP IT SIMPLE!!!!

A rebuild if you have all the parts should be a medium level DIY. With parts including paying someone to do it wouldnt be bad either.

Or hell, find a local on H-T that knows how to do it. Buy him some beer and pizza!!!

i bet you didnt tune the car for nitrous.

Get the jdm b16a block get the ctr pistons. use your internals. have a machine shop hone the block and check the piston the wall clearance. Have the machine shop balance the bottem end also. also check the clearance on the rings. plastiguage your bearings. Do it right that way you dont have to do it again.

Later on if you decide to use the nitrous again make sure to tune it. And its not recomended for anything over 110mph ( in my opinion) unless you trap that high or higher.
