Default Need help with identifiing engine noise!!!!!!!!!

So I was driving at about 90 Km/H and this douche bag just come up to my rear bumper and nearly hits me. The thing is that I get a bit nervous because of when I got rear end by motorcycle. So I tried to downshift but I mist third gear and the car staid in neutral but I kept my foot on the gas as I was trying to change lanes. Right away after at about 3000 rpm I here this noise like clak clak clak. So I pull over and pop the hood. When I would give it some gas I would here the same clak clak clak but from inside the valve cover and I could feel it abit too. The thing is that I can drive it but when I tried hitting VTEC it would become worst so I stopped that right away and babied the car home at about 30 km/h.

So what would be the worst case scenario or something that can be easily fixed. Btw its a D16Y8.

Ps: if you need more info just ask ill answer back right away

Dave

check timing. could have jumped time and the noise is valves hitting the pistons.

check valve clearence and cam shaft lobes for wear

check oil

tear the engine down and replace it with a new one.

valve cover off, head off, oil pan off then the fun of taking the pistons out, replacing all the bearings, rods, and rings (rings just because why not) maybe need new pistons too if damaged same with valves. then putting it all back together

don't start the car until you figure out what's going on. pull the valve cover off and have a look.

the thing is I have to drive it to my mechanic tomorrow. but its not to far. I will go very slow. But is there anything else I should be worried about. Could it be also be a camshaft bearing or something related to the camshaft

I think I just had something like this happen to me. I was having a funny clunk on the last few start ups and nothing else. Only happened in the morning start. I drove to the office. Then I drove from there and got a few miles and was going about 60 when it suddenly started to make a sound like belt a wrapped around a pulley broken off and slapping. Like a wap wap wap or clak or I dunno. I nursed it back. Although it ran just fine, the noise was disturbing. It sounded like it could be coming from the valves near the distributor but it was hard to tell. It even seemed to be intermitent with rpm at idle. I'd finally desided it was the distributor bearing because the dist turned with a notching feel. I put in a new dizzy yesterday but I also worked on the timing belt and water pump. When I started it, the thing made a horrible bang bang bang like a piston strike. Shut it down and tripple checked the timing. Not the problem. Either I have the same problem still and it got worse with a cold engine or I'm just missing something... To be continued.
