Default Need Advice : Should I build my D15b7 engine up?

I'm guessing im asking this before I do anything to my car at all. I just got a 95 Honda Civic dx 5 spd with 88,700 miles on it. I just replaced the cv axles and front brakes and rotors. I need to know is it worth building this engine up or go another route? This is my daily driver, true daily driver that gets me to work and school , so what ever I do to this car has to be reliable 1st off and it cant be off the road for any long period of time. Most of th work that can be done has to be done over a weekend. Budget like most is pretty tight because im a husband and father and full time school so I use what ever I get. Im 100% lost of what to do with this car even though this my project car. I know I need to get the timing belt replaced soon with water pump and I know if I get to that point and have to do that im most likely going to build on this engine, most likely the route of boost. My 1st car was a 1998 Eclipse GS-T and I miss the pull a turbo brings and the sound....lol....So any ideas you guys have would really help and if you have any question please ask so I can get you the answers. Thanks in Advance.

well, its sounds like your set on boost. turbo d series are pretty popular, and are not that expensive. But I would go for a d16z6 to start with. You can pick one up pretty cheap, build it the way you want, without having to park your car, and then swap it in on a saturday, and your done. the d15b7 just doesnt have as much potential. Although, i am sure someone will say otherwise.

Well since I have only 5 post I can do today, if anyone needs to email then email me at alwaysforwardprogress@gmail.com also.

the D16z6 is from the EX right?
Now if I do that I have to get a shop to put it in because I dont have the tools, space or no how to put it in and I have a shop quote me a price to get the engine(a jdm one) and the labor and it was around 1500-1700 I think. Is that good or too much

depends on what u want to do. 1st thing i'd do is find an 92-95 ex/si tranny or a 96-00 ex tranny best bang for the buck. since the head on your d15 is the same as a d16a6 i'd find a cam from a 4th gen si its a decent upgrade. i'm on a tight budget as well so i know the feeling, especially having such an expensive hobby.

there ripping you off.

the engine should not ne more than 500 dollars complete if you know where to look. look up somebody on honda-tech that lives near you and they might give you a better price to swap it in.

Well after doing some research I think Im going to go with a Mini-Me with Ex Tranny. Now my question today to you all is this. I know im coming up on the time to change my timing belt. Im sitting on 88,000 miles right now and it will take me time to get the money together to get everything for this mini-me swap. I know it’s best to change the timing belt when I do that because it’s a different one anyway but how long can I go(miles) before something bad can happen to the timing belt I have now. Ive heard not to go over 100K but ive read people going 150k plus before they did there and im wondering if I can hold off to do that so I can do the mini-me at that time instead. From there im going to turbo the mini me but I need to do some more research into that to see all that I need to get ready on this current engine before I do that.

I also want to change this dx into an ex model type with the power windows and stuff like that with the interior with some jdm products as well so that is another thing on my list of things to do. I want to get it back to an almost stock look with a few accents outside like lips and wheels but not get it lowered at all for 2 reason, I live in the chicago area where there are mad pot holes and I want a sleeper look some what. Even thinking about just doing a flat black paint job with some 15" or 16" Bronze Rims.

get the tranny 1st it will give u the most feelable increase in performance for the money. also i'd really look for a used si cam from a d16a6 u can prolly even get one for free or close to it if u look for one. if u look up mistabone he built a pretty fun 1.5 like yours using an si cam and various factory parts. thats the route i'd go if i were u, much simpler than a mini-me and cheaper.

That may be exagerating just a bit, but I sitll agree.

Buy the whole Z6 longblock, it's like 400 bux :-\

then buy turbo pieces and piece together your own 600 - 1k

So you're looking at 200whp on a daily driven PSI D16Z6 w/ stock internals for about 1 - 1.5k...

Not a bad deal..not to mention with how common D series parts are - very practical...

I'm trying to contimplate myself whether I should do a D series turbo (D16Z6) or an LS/T ('teg LS, B18B) w/ a turbo...

Though that's after I get my bike so not a concern of mine right now O.o

In any event, swap in a D16Z6, turbo that *****, and beat the hell outta it..
