See the foam around the 3 holes for the duct housing, you cant buy that. I really dont want to go thru the mission of pulling out the whole assembley ( only way to get that top piece off ) what type of foam can I replace that with? Can I use what ever type of foam weatherstripping I find or do you think it is some sort of special foam that resists the change between the hot air and cold air? Opinions and recommendations wanted. Thank you.

you can use simple door weather stripping insulation you find at a hardware store for that area.
