Default Name Brand Short shifter or Ebay?

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum... I've been into Hondas for a long time and I'm just getting around to doing a motor swap on my car.... b18c in my 96' coupe and I've been looking for things to add on to it while I do my swap, give it that extra sporty feel... I've been looking into short shifters for a few days now and it seems the prices jump around dramatically any tips or pointers? Should I drop 110 on like a skunk2 or 20 on a cheapy? I also don't know if double or single bend matters... any tips would be greatly appreciated!!!

My experience, I've broken most of the knock off and ebay aluminum crap short shifters, all the tenso's and **** like that, its ****ing garbage, get something made out of steel, that you wont snap in half if you like to hit gears hard. I love my skunk 2 single bend, its smooth as butter and works fantastic, and replace your shift linkage bushings with poly urethane as well. you'll be glad you did. and its worth it.

All a short shifter does, is make the **** movement less, becuase it gets rid of leverage and increases the length of the lever below the pivot point. so you have to move the top less to make the bottom move further. Little rough on transmissions, but they work well and they get the job done as long as you get a good one made of steel, not aluminum.

I put a B&M short shifter with factory bend(around $50) along with ES shifter stabilizer bushings in my car not too long ago....and I don't regret it at all.

Yeah that should work fine.

I have a $7 (shipped :D) short shifter on a D16, as the OEM shifter was cut. No complaints yet, had it 6 months and keep expecting to break it the way people post. No luck so far. My $16 shipped shift ****, however, is flaky and dull.

I have a Tenzo short shifter on my 2000 em1 and it work very well, its been on for 2-years now, and i have never had any transmission problems. The shifter never broke. I beat on the shifter all the time on the race track but on the street i drive my car like real people do, take my time and not race at every light i stop at. I do have energy suspension shifter bushings on it and men it make a big difference compare to the stock shifter.
Good Luck...

i recently have been doing some searching on short shifters as well and the best thing i have come across so far is a fidanza one for 25.00 canadian and that was form my local speed shop. They are a name brand but still competitive for price to the knock-off brands. Just my .02.

from my experience, many of my friends have had those cheap no name brand short shifters in there car and not saying its because of the shifter, but the car shifted like poo. now my friends and myself all have the skunk2 shifter/**** combo with es bushings and we have no complaints. works very well

I've had a few short shifters in the past, but even the nice (expensive) ones didn't feel that great. I put the stock shifter back in, then replaced the bushings with Energy Suspensions. World of difference. Shifts feel crisp and clean. I'd at least spend $10 and try this out first.

short shifters ftl... stock ftw seriously... SS are a good way to mash up your gears and beat the **** out of your gear box. but hey thats just me, i'd take an extended shifter over a short one any dad of the week and still be able to shift faster then someone with a SS.

Don't buy the cheap ebay shifters, i know 4 people who snapped them. I was there for 2 of them. You don't wanna snap it and get stranded somewhere do you? Buy a name brand short shifter, or leave it stock.

I've used an Ebay one for 1-2 years and it worked out fine, although I never shifter hard enough to break it. The B&M one is much better quality though.

i dont see how you guys break shifters, ive taken my car down the track a few times, and never had to "shift hard" i dont see how hard you guys slam em into gear to break them, but thats me...

im pretty sure my car has a b&m piece, feels good, just need to figure out why it grinds 2nd some times... lol
