NA Power w/ Vitaras?
I just picked up a D16Y8 to swap into my beast, and I eventually plan to turbo it, but at this point I don't have the cash to do it all at once. If I build it with Vitara's before I throw it in and run it NA until I save up the cash for the turbo, how much power am I sacrificing over stock pistons? Will it be noticable or fairly negligable?

The biggest issue won't be a lack of power, it will be a lack of tuning while running such low compression pistons.
If you can afford to tune it twice, once on an NA tune and once after boost, go for it. But then again, if you can afford to waste money on a temporary tune, might as well boost it now and only have to tune once.

yeah, buy the pistons, then rods, then put them in WHEN you get the turbo setup. why waste money on it. if it doesn't need new pistons, why fix it?

And to the second poster, I was hoping to be able to avoid opening up the engine twice. I'd rather have this thing built and ready to roll, but of course only if it makes sense. But like I said, I'm quite a noob when it comes to engine building and tuning so any tips or advice anyone can give me is very much appreciated!

Re: NA Power w/ Vitaras?
what? it will run on vitaras without a tune. where did you come up with that info?
anyway, there is no point putting in vitara's with stock rods. the stock rods are the weak point when it comes to hp. they are safe to run 220-250 give or take, and its debateable. with vitara's, the rods will still only handle that much. save 300 bucks, and get eagle rods if you want to make more power than that. eagle rods and vitaras are around 449 shipped on ebay. and are good for 400+ hp.
