taller tire, corrects the speedo issue.
Think about it, Tegs run taller tires, but have the same VSS/ECU.
The bad side, your odometer will read less mileage, so you'll think your getting less mpg.
It's a Honda, I'm not worried about the odometer!

do you or did the cluster have white face gauges?
when i bought my em1 the guy before me had white faced gauges, when he uninstalled them, he had to take the needle off the gauge. when he put it back on, it was correctly placed so it allways read like 7mph over...if this is the case for you, take off the needle, turn the car on, and reset it so that it faces the zero, before the rest point. then you can lift the end of the needle over the rest point and let it sit on it. and your good to go..
hope this helps

If you're travelling at an indicated 70 mph and covering 35 miles of distance in 1/2 hour, the speedometer would be completely accurate, unless I'm somehow misinterpreting your post?

I use a GPS
even with 15X7 rims, my speedo is off by 2mph according to what the GPS reads.

Re: (97Ej6mike)
My Speedometer (and odometer) have been off since day one (Feb 1, 1992) While driving the new car (92 Civic Si) home to Omaha from KC I broke out my stopwatch (I have an SCCA National lisence in T&S) and tracked it for 20 miles using I-29 mileposts. It was reading high by about 5% Indicating 60 was actually 57. 80 is actually 75. This was with the OEM 185/60/14 tires with 90 miles on them. Since then I now use 205/55/15's... it has only changed slightly for the better.
I believe it's a Honda thing just like BMW.

I don't think any of the stock guages are really that accurate. I know my tach is off as well (compared to my AVCR which is much more accurate).
If you want them to be accurate you need to invest in some aftermarket guages. Most people that drive civics don't really care if its off a couple miles per hour since they just get grocery's in it.

Lol, I've never quite seen it put into words that way... milage on a Honda doesn't mean much liek it does on other cars.
As for spedo's, police don't stop people for 1-2 over (non-Hondas I mean) because its known tire wear + OEM shitparts = nearly 10% off in some cases. They also do that so their cars don't get a rep for always crashing more in normal conditions, or to be known as cop-attractants. The DOT or whoever requires the spedos to be 8% or less from the real reading. I know my 205/40/16's read around 10% faster with an LS trans, and a little bit less with a D16 trans. They are technically a tad shorter than stock.
If you really want to know how fast you're moving, you can get GPS, have someone custom-cut an entire FD gear with a new spedo gear & mod the trans casing for the VSS, get a box that will alter the VSS signal, or... get a used police cruiser with a certified spedometer. They are certified to under 1% so they can give you tickets just by pacing you.
