Default My plans for my 96 dx hatch.

My question for you is does this sound like a reasonable and smart plan?
Do my mini me swap since I allready have most the parts. Ride on that for a year wile im going to school for auto mechanics. Wile in school buy a LS block and a b16a Head. Eagle everything in the block. Skunk2 pro2 camshafts Also have the head cnc ported and polished and cleaned. Put it all together with a lsd trans and rock it all motor. prolly gonna have hondata as well and have someone show me how to use it.

so am i waisting time on the mini me if im going to swap it anyhow? Or is it a good idea figuring i can sell it after i do the ls/vtec?

instead of doing a mini-me and then turboing the mini-me you should just keep the dx motor and turbo that for a lil while a friend of mine has one and its pretty quick bauleycivic made a thread about why you should turbo instead of doin a mini-me and a turbo dx motor should keep you satisfied until you finish your ls/vtec setup

His plan sounds fine to me... IMO it's a waste to even mess w/ a SOHC, let alone modify it. Once you get a DOHC you will never go back. When I picked up my 96 hatch I already had a motor for it, and the first thing I did was scrap the SOHC.

First of all, B series have no torque! Go H series!!! No I'm just kidding B series guys. Anyways, why are we still posting these threads about what block and head and yaddy yaddy ya! There is so much information in the Honda Tech archives. And everyone knows that yes, a LS block with a GSR head or B16 head runs great. But, speaking from experience, I went with the H22. Yes, a little more expensive. Yes, not as popular as the B series. Yes, Spoon and Mugen do not make many if any H series parts. But how can you pass up the torque. The only 'real' H series bummer is..............the TRANNY! But my friends at Hybrid Dynamics speak of an aleged conversion plate, to run an H22 block with a B series tranny? Now that would be a sick little Frankenstein of an automobile.

Why not just buy an ITR or CTR motor? Easy swap, nice and reliable, plus you always have the option of boostin later on.

ITR and CTR + boost...= are 3 words we don't mix together...

i agree on SOHC turbo for a while....but this guy said he already has all the parts for the mini-me so turbo would be more money.....so waste no more money on the SOHC...and just save for the build..
good luck and good choice on the EK hatch

Im an all motor kind of guy. I want to do the work. Im not looking for the easy way out. I want to build this motor all the way through so when its done and im driving it I can say I BUILT this. Not put it togeter, BUILT it. And im sure it will be a great moment. As far as turbos, idk how I feel about them. There cool I guess but idk, I rather do all motor.

An all motor kinda guy...wow...priceless. Well if you mean all motor as in raising your comp ratio to about 12:1 and having to run 98 octane, thats just ridiculous. Of course when you do, you'll need bigger cams, port everything, and you might be lucky to run a high 12 in the 1/4 mile. In the mean time the guy in the other lane has a B18 LS turbo and just happens to run a 12 flat, but hey...you're all motor, you're the cool guy! You still have building to do, unless when you say all motor you just mean stuff like a header, intake manifold, exhaust. What a waste of time if you pass up on the turbo. And, what do you mean you can say you built it. Are you serious. Are you gonna bore out the block and do your own machine work. If you want a fast car, buy a dart block and run Crower FI cams. Get a sweetass boost controller, and put 20 psi to that ************! The only thing you'll hate is not getting all that power to hook up. Don't be stupid. Build it right the FIRST TIME!!! Hope this helps your quest to be the cool guy who can build his own engine, not put it together....right....

I kind of understand were your coming from, I was there once. But the Power of the Turbo force was to strong. And let me tell you Im dont think Im turning back. 200whp on a D series from a greddy kit is awesome let me tell you. Pretty much Mid 13's to low 14's all day.

wow dude, what the **** are you smoking? Your going nuts over there. Im not really into turbos, there cool i just want all motor setup. Im not going to race it hardcore or anything. I just want alittle straight up ***** under my hood. As far as porting it and all. YES. Im going to school in september, thats the reason im doing this prodject. I want to take a block do all the porting and stroke it. Do internals, same with the head. try to get some decent power out of it, 200+ horse. and just drive it.

Ummm yea I would say I would be an all motor kinda guy too (when I get some money for a real motor that is). Whats wrong with not wanting a turbo? I like turbos too and someone will have a turbo'ed care but rfoster03 why do you car if he doesnt have a turbo on his car. No doubt turbos are cheeper in the sence of $/hp but the art of N/A tuning is exciting and fun as well.

Oh by the way, a 12 sec all motor 4 cyl is impressive in my book.

for the hater

so you are going to port your block, huh? I wouldn't ouch you car until you finish that school.

Sell you d-series stuff, save some money and build something respectable (in the sense of a 4 banger)
