What exactly is duraglass and where can you get it?
Over the summer I'm going to basically do what he's doing, but not as extreme. I have to go take that wheel well guard off.

BTW, looks really good. How much time have you put into it so far?

Dude it's looking really good - keep up the great work and good luck!

Seeing this makes me really want to start the body work on my EH2.. My poor car has a few small rust spots and a number of dents that really need to be taken care of.. I'm afraid of the rust spreading while I'm waiting for money!

i painted my fenders, lip, and grill...... thats all the painting i ever want to do. when i put on the fenders they didn't match......... how dumb, but they match well enough for me not to care. im going to re-do it in a darker green and hopefully it will match.

good luck on the entire car...... i love that blue

I don't see how it can rust, there not holes just surface rust. Ive been taking everything down to bare metal where there was rust then using a special wire wheel with some kind of green compound in it made just for that. When I get done with them it looks like I buffed the area as well. Once I do that on the doors it gets bonda in the one area where it went thro on the trunk area I did use the duraglass or something along those lines, also that's what was used on the wheel wells or anywhere prone to more rust.

I got the price on paint today BTW. $406 for 3quarts of pain! its over $100 quart usually you can get 3 quarts for the price of one. Ive been debating it for the afternoon and Im sticking with my choice tho.

I hope for you it turns out well but I'd be affraid all these spots you repaired are going to show through once painted. It can look smooth as a baby's *** when in primer but once painted it somehow shows through. I don't know how body guys manage to do it but I've never been able to fill in a ding perfectly smooth.

Yea got me, but Im going to put a coat of sealer on before paint. The only thing Im not doing is spraying paint, Ill do primer no prop but not paint I don't want to mess up the most important step my skills aren't that good yet.

If anyone knows where I can get a can of paint for less then $400 by the end of tonight (ordered in the morning obviously) let me know!

yeah man definately spray some kind of reface or sealer around those dents a few times. then spray a guidecoat on each coat of the reface an sand them flat in between. thats how the body people hide **** right there. make sure you use a long sanding board to finish all that **** off so it wont be wavy like if youre using one of the ones you can buy anywhere that have the metal teeth to grab the paper about 4 inchs big. they will mess up the paint an cause **** to appear that shouldnt. just guidecoat it to hell so you can see all the little **** you would normally miss. like the sandscratches. good luck . i just shaved my sol down a sprayed it formula red with some bronze pearl looks ok wish i had more time at the shop to finish it theres to many cars up there an mine needed t be out

good job on the body work, but why change the color? Keep it white, OEM is better for resale.

I hope your kidding about the gold. No way am I going with gold that just wont look right. Anyhow Ive made up my mind on the Fiji Blue Pearl to my knowledge it will be the first Sol painted that color that I'M AWARE of anyhow. the $450 for the paint alone should be enough to scare away most people. (3qts = $450, none pearl paint 3qts = $130)

Duraglass is similar to bondo as far as mixing and spreading, but it is waterproof, so it will last a lot longer before the rust will return. It should be available at any local auto body repair store.
Here are a few important things that I have learned working at a body shop:
-If you can feel it in the body work, you are definitely going to see it in the clearcoat
-The best way to get all of the panels to match is to spray them with clear coat in the same position as they will sit on the car.
-The longer primer sits on the car the better
-Rust is tricky and very difficult to defeat, so every preventative measure should be taken with it.
