it did something very similar to that with my friends B16 when the mani. was actually cracked. I suppose not getting enough air and the motor tries to make up for it by increasing revs. I suppose a result of too much honing or boring. Those B16s flow well enough already. oh well. Good luck man.

look for vacuum leaks in the hoses, check the MAP sensor to make sure your getting the correct voltage. a chiltons/haynes manual and a multimater will help ya out. It may even be a leak on manifold. run the car and spray wd-40 were the manifold meets the head, if it revs up more, then check gasket. my problem seems to be the purge control solenoid on the manifold, $131.17 from dealership good luck

i just put a new mani gasket on tonight and it still does it.. ? what could be the problem.. all hoses are connected properly. no vacuum leaks. it just does it .. no matter what manifold i put on.. i just replaced the head gasket too and that didnt help/ it starts at like 4k then sometimes will settle at 2k but always when it starts it goes to 4K for a while... i know this aint good.. what is the purge control solenoid. what does it look like .. also what color wires goes to the map sensor and what colors go to the throttle position sensor? i dont think i mixed up the plugs but i dont know.. its a 93 CX..

get some manifold spray cleaner, or brake cleaner, and spray around the gaskets and a the manifold, to find some vacuum leaks....you got one somehwere.

ok.. its still has the problem but when i pull out the vacuum line from the map sensor it goes down to about 2K it sputters a lil but its better? why is this ? also if the TPS has a diff voltage would that hurt something? i tried to drive without the TPS but it stumbled a lil so i re plugged it in.

Did you try to set the voltage on the tps? If not it has 2 different voltages one when it is wide open and one when it is closed. If you have a repair book it will tell how to do this. You have to set the voltage for both settings. Not sure about the vacuum line why it would do that.

i was trying to remeber how to do this and it is...

the tps has 2 screws on it when you loosen these screws you can rotate it just a little when you roatate you will get a different voltage reading on your multimeter.

hooking the meter up you need to have the tps conected(sp?) there is 3 wires that come out of it, you want to put the postive meter cable in the middle wire and ground the black cable to what ever, the car has to be in the on postion not started. as you rotate the tps you will get all sorts of numbers on the meter screen ( I'm going to find out those numbers for you tonight and post them)

But when you find the right setting at wide open and closed postion all you have to do is tighten it back down and reset your ecu. do you have the Breakdown manual? If not get one or borrow one.

Another idea my friend asked just a idea, but your cam my be in upside down just something else to look at.

heres something i found it should help try this and good luck, heres the web site I found it on

http://www.geocities.com/chipman_13/clippings.html

TPS Adjustment:
With the Key On, Engine Off hook up a voltmeter to the TPS. @ idle (closed throttle), voltage should be close to .5V and @ WOT voltage should be 4.5V.

The best way to adjust the TPS voltage is @ idle (closed throttle). While Key On, Engine Off, hook up voltmeter between the yel/wht & grn/wht and observe reading. If it needs to be adjusted, loosen the TPS mounting and move the TPS until voltmeter reads close to .5V. The check engine light will let you know immediately whether you missed up or not.
