Default my friends LSVTEC hatch out runs my B20vtec hatch, both EK.

My car doesn't pull as much as my friend's lsvtec. We both have a hatch. I have a 1st gen b16 head, b20z bottom, GSR cams, I/H/E, fuel pressure set at 45 (WOT), stock 240cc injectors, stock civic fuel pump, chipped P28, and for some reason, it doesn't pull as hard as it should. He has pretty much the same head, I/H/E...but we would think I should beat him by a car at least. I know when you put a vtec head on, you lose a little torque, but gain much more top end power. My vtec is engaging, i hear the changover, but isn't it suppose to pull you with a rush. My car lacks that rush during vtec! I feel as if my b20 head did much better overall. Am I not getting enough fuel during vtec?

are you running a stock oil pump? Change that out to a Type R and you'll feel a difference.

Isn't the '00 B20z oil pump the same as ITR? This was confirmed many times on other posts here. Why do i feel the my b20 head pulls harder than the b16 overall?

does your friend have a stock fuel pump? if he change his then that prolly your b20/vtec feels weaker it prolly in need of GASSSSS

prolly like you said the torque differences b16 have a better high end

i would tend to think that the b20 pistons make your engine have a lot lower compression than a stock LS/VTEC bottom end. VTEC cams love compression.

not sure on how correct this is. but
B20z with b16 head yeilds a 10.1:1 C/R
LS/vtec with b16 head 9.7:1
these were if are using a stock block.

your b20 bottom end needs a lot of fuel and air to draw power from it, i have a hatch with a stock type r head , stock b20 bottom , and a b16 tranny and it does low 13's and high 12's . make sure your air flow and cams match your block or it won't do much

i forgot to mention. While my head is 1st gen b16 with gsr cams, 2nd gen b16 intake manifold and TB, stock injectors, and civic fuel pump....he has internally stock 99up SI head w/ITR intake manifold and throttle body, 310cc RC injectors, and also stock civic pump...would his slightly better intake flow, and fuel injection makes a big difference over my slightly better bottom end?

Why would you lose torque?

Damn dude did you know what you were doing when you were building your LSVTEC? Do you even know how much comppresion you have vs your friend?

Just to let you know there are tons of great threads on builing an LSVTEC here on HT. Read up

ps look in the archived

ok no loss of torque. Just not the expected gains in top end power.

i'm running the b20vtec, my friend has an LSV in his hatch...we're both equally skill in driving LOL..i've driven his hatch and beaten him in my hatch.

his car may be faster due to these 3 factors:

1. Freshly newer b16 head..he has a '00 SI head while i have a '89 B16 head w/GSR cams

2. He's running bigger injectors than I am. 310cc vs. 240cc

3. He has an ITR manifold/TB, i have a 2nd gen b16

we both have GSR trannies...no dyno tuning yet

maybe the 1st thing i need to do is upgrade to bigger injectors since my 2.0 block is starving for the fuel needed during vtec

there are mutliple things that can play a key factor in why your 2.0 isnt kicking ***. First off do a basic maintence on the motor. like checking compression and doing a leak down. most of the b20vtec's i have come across smoke the **** out of the 1.8's do a simple check and if anything buy higher comp pistons....that should do it!

I'm not a B-series guy myself but allmotor-wise, I believe the B16 cams are more aggressive than the GSR

When's the last time you got a valve adjustment and maintenance on your EK?

u should swap ECU's i know my boy had a chipped p72 and it ****** sucked compared to this chipped p28.. sometimes ecu's arent always right.. and i would bump your fuel up more.. get some bigger injectors.. deff. dyno it and have it tuned good luck
