my civic is going downhill quickly
A few months ago i had a blown head gasket, thats been fixed and fine now, when everything seems to be normal running fine problems arise yet again. Yesterday i started my car to go home from work and i noticed a " clunk clunk clunk clunk clunk " sound comming from the engine getting louder as RPM's increased. Also a noticiable loss in power and the engine will not idle for **** it just turns off when im out of gear or while the clutch is pushed in between shifts. Its a stock EJ8 96. I doubt it will last much longer... im wondering if i should trade it in to a dealer before it dies vs selling it to someone and having them calling me about it when it does die. I dont want to put anymore money into the car i.e. engine swap or repair. i think im seeing the last days of it..

Trade it at any dealership before it dies on you.... Your better off getting what they offer versus your car breaking down and replacing the motor or selling it for cheap. Either way you lose or have to spend money so i recommend trading it in for something more reliable lol... I should of done that with my ek but ended spending money on a motor swap!!

a dealer is gonna laugh at you & give you peanuts for ur trade in
sell it yourself as is if you dont wanna fix it which is just plain lazy because a simple swap can turn ur car into a reliable daily driver

Personally, I would just buy another engine from a junkyard and replace it. If you have some tools and a little knowledge you can pretty much figure it out. The EXACT same thing happened to me when i bought my car, had it for a month and it dropped a valve. I had no idea what a Honda was and I didnt have many problems. Think it took me three days with NO help from anyone, except honda tech.
Anyways, my vote is to buy another engine for $400 and put it in. Selling it at this state is gonna = HUGE money loss.

Most people don't have the tools, knowledge or a place to work for a motor swap. As for parting it, unless you have alot of time, you're not going get **** for it.
Dump it. Try dumping it here first. It's probably worth 1-3K as it sits. Once a car becomes a hassle, just dump it like dirty underwear and buy something else.
