I just put a b16 in my car, and i realized it takes soo much longer to get up to operating temperature. Granted its freezing outside, the d15 warmed up MUCH quicker..... IS this the result of a fautly thermostat? Anything else that could cause this?

Yes, your thermo could be stuck open.

It takes a while to budge , and get up there....then it still seems to run a little cool for a bigger motor.

It's better to be stuck open then stuck closed

if it takes a while to go up then that's what you want. Try driving it on hills see if it will bring it up faster

This is taking way too long though, I cant even get up to operating temp after like 10 mins of city driving? IS it DEFINETLY the thermostat or could it be another sensor or something?

If there was air in the coolant system he would overheat. When the thermostat gets stuck open it lets coolant run through even when the car is cold....hence making it longer to get the operating temp. Just change it out and see if that fixes it. My guess is the thermostat's broken but its one of those safe ones that stays open rather than it staying closed.

Well were did you get the swap from? Maybe the person who had the car before put a Performance Thermostat. My brothers Girl bout a nice little Eg coupe with a vtec head. The person who had the car put a Performance Thermostat on the car and it is always very low Temp. on the gauge.
You never know maybe its the thermostat.

um ok well if oil is think the engine take long to warm the oil up to temperate and pressure. the depends on oil pressure if the oil pressure is different at cold start than at normal operating temp then the idle will be different

dont say someone doesn;t knwo what they are talkign about unless u have talked to them or can argue the fact and explain that u know what up...stating somone is stupid is not very smart...proving someone is stupid is another thing

Another thread i have for a different problem, somebody said to replace the water temp sending unit. I have never heard of it, but i didnt know if that could be a potential problem?

what you can actually do is swap the one from your old engine into your new engine. I did that with mine. I had just bought a new thermostat like 2months before I did my swap. Once I did my swap, went driving around to break in my clutch, and after an hour, it still never got up to as hot as my old engine did. So I took the theromstat and just incase, the temp sensor, and compared the two. Both were exactly the same. So I swap the two, and now both are in my car and havn't had a problem since. If it has been a while since your last thermostat, I say just get one from honda. I bought one from autozone once, and I thought the quality looked like ****. So I went to honda, spent a few bucks more, and was glad I did.
