Re: motor swap help
What part of the world are you in ?
North america the 1997 civic came with a d16, but I guess it doesnt matter if your swapping it out.
The GSR motor is a great option. ( best motor to swap when factoring cost ).
And yes you can upgrade what ever you want in the future.
As for the rear drums to brakes, theres a right up here ,search for civic brake conversion.
But to make it easy but not complete explanation; you will need:
-rear brake setup from a DC2 or Civic with discs ( this means rotors , calipers, and hub )
-Rear brake lines from a 96-00 civic that came with disc rotors in rear -emergency brake lines, and actual brake lines( in canada SIR, the states SI ).
brake booster and distribution block are also recommended.

Re: motor swap help
I have never swapped the prop valve when doing rear disk, and have never had any problems.
But it might have long term issues with brake pad wear patterns, I dont think its much of a difference.

Re: motor swap help
GSR is a nice swap, good power alll the way through. Best to get an ODB2 grs. they are PLUG AND PLAY WITH AN ODB2 harness. if you have a d16y8, the vtec is already wired. you will need to wire for the IAB. search it, there are a lot of good post. you can use your stock ecu, or go with a b16odb2 or gsr odb2, otherwise, you will need a jumper harness to run an odb1 ecu.
disc conversions arent a problem when it comes to the proportioning valve. that valve just doe not exert as much pressure as a rear disc prop valve. you will see better braking, but not as good as you could get with the proper prop valve.

rear disk is simple, however i WOULD change the prop valve, al though many people have not had a problem with them, theres always a chance, drums need higher pressure then disk, not good for calipers, pads.
b18c1 is a great swap, theres plently of threads on here that says what you need and how to do it.
