Motor Oil, what is good?
What are the top brands for motor oil for performance.
Right now, the best ones that I heard are
AMS
LUCAS
ENEOS
which is best or is there anything better.

i use to use mobil1, but switched over to amsoil, the amsoil is good ****, but the more important question is what kind of oil filter are you using? you could be using the best oil in the world, but a crappy oil filter that doesn't do its job will negate everything the expensive oil does.

I use Mobile1, my friend used Mobile1 in his tercel - 215k later it's still perfectly fine - pulls strong and everything (I just bought it as a commuter car, actually). My dad uses Mobile1 - always, put 360k on his benz 300E and it was still running fine (trans blew out and we sold it). I use Mobile1.
My good friend who's into Nissans uses Royal Purple - and that's just as good.
For what I'd say top name brands are (not in any particular order).
- Mobile1
- Castrol GTX
- Royal Purple
- Lucas
Penzoil if you're only gonna run it for like 500mi or something before another change...
You use any "name brand" fully synthetic oil and change it every 3k and you'll be perfectly mint in terms of lubrication.

x2. But Royal Purple with HAMP Synergy filter FTW!
Royal Purple has been dyno proven in many different independent studies. I switched from Castrol Syntec, and the car runs like a f*cking CHAMP!

i stopped using mobile one and bought the new pennzoil full syn oil
i'm surprised at how much longer it stays cleaner then mobile one did...
ethier way they both work great but i'm not gonna knock the pennzoil until it does something wrong....
i rock the fram filter...
i hope everyone who goes to honda is using the s2k filter....
all other ones are just re badged frams....

When synthetic oil is dark, it's usually a good thing b/c synthetic oil traps gunk, carbon, and other foreign things that shouldn't be in your engine, so when it's "dirty" that means it's doing it's job! The color for synthetic doesn't matter much...just stick with your proper intervals.
And if you want to use the best filter out there, look up HAMP Synergy. (If you search, they cost about the same as Honda filters)

I highly doubt it. Here's a link to read about HAMP:
http://ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?t=91219
HAMP is an aftermarket company MADE by Honda, (which is similar to Mugen's story, so the quality is top notch.)
BTW, don't buy them at $12. Total rip off. Passwordjdm has them for about $6-7.

Motor Oil - it's all good
A LONG time ago I read a Consumer Reports article that analyzed motor oils. Synthetic oils had not been invented yet. Castrol came out on top. Up until I read that article I just used whatever name brand oil and filter was on sale like Quaker State, NAPA, or Pennzoil then I switched to Castrol. I tried to stick to a 3k oil change interval but often I was too busy so 7k intervals were common. I ran my 84 Accord like this for 18 years and 300k miles. The engine still ran like a top (but burned some oil).
So my conclusion based on my experience is that a good motor such as a Honda will last a LONG time even if you make a half-assed effort of changing oil. The brand probably doesn't make a whole lot of difference.
Today I use Royal Purple in my modified 97 Civic for the supposed benefits in HP gains and the longer recommended change interval.
