Hey,

Yeah, I'm still here though I don't visit as often as I like. Life seems to take more and more free time away from me.

My daily driver as of July 2008 is an 08' Fit Sport with a 5 speed manual. After the initial break in of 500 miles and then a 1000 mile run of Super Tech Synthetic oil, I have been running AMSOIL in it changing it only once per year. I put on average of 16,000 miles a year on it. I took an oil sample for the first 3 years of ownership and they all came back fine and have not got one since. The only problem I have ran into is that the oil filter is too small to go the whole year and I have to change it at 6 months. I usually add a half a quart during that year's time too. I get on average of 38mpg.

I run the Subaru on Valvoline Synpower and run it for 6,000 miles. There was an AMSOIL service bulletin a while back saying some turbos were clogging up on extended drain intervals and they recommended following the factory recommendations. It's hard to say the reason they were clogging, it can be a whole host of reasons. I had run the AMSOIL oil in the Subie for 11,000 miles a coulple of times until I got that bulletin. I switched to Valvoline because it still a good oil, but cheaper than AMSOIL

I do a once a year oil change in the Si, though that doesn't count because I only drive it a couple of thousand miles a year.

So I still believe in the extended drain, though it may not be practical in all situations.

Hello, nice to hear from the OP and the other oil guys!

A friend of mine just posted this on fb:

Buzzbomb is right about changing synthetics.

About conventional motor oil I stick with the 3K miles interval.
I did oil analysis on on 3000 and 4000 miles and conventional oil tends to drop viscosity from 5W30 and 10W30 to 5w20 and 10W20 respectively at about or after 3000 miles.

.
Good info

Relative to the enviroment. Think about how much less waste oil there would be, how much less dependent our economy would be on foreign oil, and how much money could be saved by going to 5000 mile oil changes?

Like buzzbomb, I do once per year oil changes with Amsoil.

Wow, lots of misconception in this one! I'd suggest any of you really interested in learning about oils head over to www.bobistheoilguy.com and start reading! There are many experts as well as real tribologists over there that will teach you all you need to know about motor oil. Fact is conventional oil is just fine for most anyone as long as you maintain a regular OCI.
