Ok, heres the deal...
I went to the track the other night.. second launch i wheel hopped really badly. After every shift i could not get the tires to spin all i felt was the engine moving really bad like i had really soft munts. This caused the engine to actually hit the hood and put a few small dents on it This is poved by paint on the valve cover from the hood.. it must have moved several inches
Come to find out, this bolt was missing from the left mount:


A better look at the whole area im talking about.

Now after finding a bolt that fit today, when i merged onto the parkway, i reved out 2nd and 'power shifted' into 3rd to make sure everything was tight.. and once again the engine felt loose not as bad as prior to putting in that bolt, but still it didnt feel right.
So i came home tonight to inspect all the mounts. I found that this bolt hole is stripped inside of the transmission case:

This bolt could not tighten at all, it kinda just sits in there and spins.


My question is: is that bolt supposed to be that short?? did it snap?!?!?.. and what should i do about the trans case being stripped, use an over-sized bolt?

The bolt is supposed to be that short, or at least mine is. I'd helicoil it.

Although your are missing a bolt in that mount, the other two should be keeping it tight.
I had the same hole stripped in my tranny casing and I drove around like that for probably a month before I happened to notice it while changing tranny fluid.
There was no extra movement in the motor or anything.

I would look at your other mounts and see if the rubber is torn in any of them.
Look at the driver side upper mount and rear rubber mount(that the tranny bracket bolts to).
Those are the only mounts that could allow that much movement.

hmm really? well the rest should be tight.. i have poly inserts in there.. thats why i cant figure it out.. ever since i went to the track, poped the hood and saw that bolt missing its been feeling loose.

Repairs stripped out threads better than new.

You should start the car, pop the hood, and have a friend watch the engine as you drive the car forwards and bakward a couple of inches at a time.

You should be able to see the engine torquing back and forth and might let you see what component is letting the engine move so much.

that third pic look like its a broken stud with a nut on it not a bolt

a helicoil is basicaly threads.. you drill out the hold tap it with a bigger tap and use lock tight and a special tool to put them in

looks good.. i guess ill try that.. and if the engine is still moving alot, i guess i have to look at the rear mount.. b/c i know the drivers side is good... The rear one is so hard to get too.. but by the looks of it, its looks good and the poly insert still looks good.

I believe so.
Like I said, I drove around for a month with same stud missing. I even attended 2 autocross events. There was no extra engine movement.

Did you have someone watch the engine while you got the motor to torque back and forth?

na i got a ride to work with someone else yesterday... i guess ill ask my girl to look at it today, but im not sure how much good info i can get from her.. or maybe ill let her drive n ill take a look..

The thing is, i have inserts in all the mounts.. do they usually break that easly?

I don't see how the rear mount could break with an insert in it, it's completely enclosed by the bracket.

well, i put up the e-brake and gave it some gas/lifted on the clutch a little, with the hood up, and i really didnt see the engine move that much.. It did move a little tho...

Would there be any other reason why i the front end feels soft.. The clutch is good, the suspension is good, the axles are brand new ha sport.. i dunno.. i guess ill re-tap this stud and see if im still havin the problem.

Any other ideas till then??

is it just me or does no-one else see any threads on the stud itself? Honda lists it as (12X55.6)..... measure it before you go drillin...
