More Poaawweeerrrr
Hello Honda Tech,
I have a wager with a good friend coming when the drag strip opens back up in Chicago. He has a Mazda Speed 3 non-turbo hatchback (stock) 2015. The car his 155hp & 150 Torques stock and weighs 2850lbs. I continue to berate him that my daily driver 98 civic ex sedan (manual) will out drag his new vehicle in an attempt to get under his skin.
Now the fun stuff, my civic has a 2.5 catback, cold air intake (to front bumper), and 4-2-1 headers, with a lightweight flywheel & stage 1 clutch. I have stripped the trunk. Now, in an effort to secure my bragging rights, I believe the only other bolt on's i'm missing are intake manifold and a TB as forced induction is not in the rules.
Would the forum please humor me as to what I can do to my Civic to give him a run for my money?
Thanks!

strip back seats and whatver else u can strip to make it lighter.
The Mazda3 has newer technology and engine burns alot cleaner than your 18 year old beater which has XXX,XXX miles on it. The IM and TB wont do much for your single jingle in stock trim. Youll need to spend a few hundred on the head to get some performance out of it.
If your going to challenge someone, make sure you can back it up or risk having your feelings hurt.

the gearing alone of the mazda will make you loose, along with the fact that's a brand new car vs your old one which does not have the same hp/tq when it left the factory like your friends. hope you have a real car to ru.
on paper my civic is faster then my FIT irl not the case that thing has extremely short gears making up for its low power.

where is the wishful thinking? His car is roughly 350lbs heavier than mine and I've driven his extensively and the 18 year old civic "feels" faster.
Regarding the tuning,
I've read about Hondata but i'm unaware if it is completely manual or they have "box flash tunes"

You have a lot to learn. A lot of very basic, very simple things. Power:weight isn't the only thing involved in your cute little drag race. Go read the FAQ stickies in a few of the sections, get some basic knowledge under your belt, and then think about why this is a stupid idea. Here, I'll spoon feed you some basic information.
1996-00 Civic EX 0-60 mph 10.4 | Quarter mile 17.4
2010 Mazdaspeed 3 0-60 mph 5.4 | Quarter mile 14.0
Translation: He's going to walk away from you. Walk. The ****. Away. One other person ITT has already told you EXACTLY why that's going to happen, but I guess it needs to be said again. His transmission is geared for acceleration. Your transmission is geared for a grocery-getting econobox. He has a basic, entry-level hot hatch. You have a basic, cheap economy car. No amount of basic bolt-ons will ever get you up to par with his car.

Yes, I read it. Are you capable of reading words with more than four letters? Do you even have half of an iota of comprehension into what goes into a car moving in a straight line?
His car will walk away from you in literally any venue you try to meet him in. Eighth mile, quarter mile, 1000', autocross, rallycross, road racing, circuit racing, doesn't ******* matter. His car wins. Period.
Now stop acting like a stupid ******* highschool kid and grow up. The last thing anyone in the world wants is another shitstabber who thinks his Civic is fast because it has a fart can and an intake, and right now, that's exactly what you are. Unfuck yourself.

No such thing as a 2015 mazdaspeed 3 exists. There hasn't been a MS3 since 2013. Also, all Mazdaspeed 3's are turbocharged. I think what you are mistaken for is a mazda 3 sport. Which is a regular mazda 3 with some "sporty" visual add ons.

^This. No MS3 until at least 2016.
C&D tested the 2.5 model (184HP/185ft-lb) at 7.3s 0-60 and a 15.6s @ 91mph quarter, so on paper you might technically have a chance, but that makes a lot of assumptions.

Re: More Poaawweeerrrr
This thread has been humored enough.
OP isn't willing to research the plethora of information on this site about his econobox Honda so doesn't even have a basic understanding of what constitutes a tune to actually get minimal gains from the bolt on parts.
Bench racing is not condoned in the tech sections, at least not this one.
Good luck, and don't race for pinks unless you really hate your car.
