Manual conversion or Engine Swap
So, I might be gettin a 1998 Civic LX Sedan for free from my sister but its an automatic... I'd like to spend as little as possible on the initial mods but for sure it needs to be a 5speed... Manual-swap or engine swap??

both, if money is an issue save.
Thing is if you do either it will cost you alot more in the long run.
Option 1:
Swap a motor in have to buy an auto tranny b/c most come with manual, or if you get lucky get on included instead of auto. Then have to buy another tranny (manual) when you want to swap...plus all the other manual bs.
Option 2:
Manual swap but have to buy d-series manual, then have to buy a whole swap and d-series tranny is worthless.
Option 3:
save your money and do both at the same time so no extra money is need to do both.
Also, there is ECU issues with the first two options, as far as buying the right one for the tranny/car combo
When you do it together all you need is pedals, lines, resivoir, clutch and master cylinder. And sometimes some of the stuff comes with the swap, like mine came with the slave cyl.

Just go with option 3, and do a swap with the manual tranny. I have a 99 lx 4dr, and did a b18b swap with a manual tranny. Worth every penny. And not hard at all.
