the only thing i did like that is; about 2 years ago when i was dumb i took off my airbox and i put a sock around the plastic tube . Short ram sock air intake Its not a wise choice though because you run the risk of sucking some thing into your engine.

local car shop. get a rubber thingy a few clamps and a k&n filter. can say for sure cuz mine was on a d16 so i needed an elbow from the throttle body. just make sure to mount it so it doesnt move around. mine sounds better than my friends aem but that doesnt mean anything. it performs real well. you can really feel it in the higher rpm's. cost me $25. i got a free filter from a friend. expect to pay 40 for a k&n. so about $65. use the rubber thing to connect the throttlebody to your pipe. i used 2 1/2 inch. then clamp it to the throttlebody and the pipe. and then clamp your filter to the pipe.

That link to team sol is kick ***. That cold air intake looks easy as hell to make and It actually looks just like an AEM system. Sounds funny but I think I'm gonna make one now.

The ULTIMATE PIMP accessory to go with this would be a complementary home depot lip for $10 home depot

Re: making your own cold air intake (BAR-F1)
K&N drop in filter
Aluminum ducting
hose clamp
$40 + $5 + $1 = $46

i saw a dyno somewhere, just recently with a stock air box and K&N vs an AEM
the AEM made something like 1 more hp
with a short ram air or any mandrel pipe replacing the rubber hose i think (this is an oppinion) it would perform just as well as the AEM. i really wish i could find the link of the comparison. it says a lot for the stock honda box

The homemade cai if made right is possible to make a slight gain over aem's because you can coat the inside of the tube as well as the outside which gives the inside a smooth surface (reducing drag so air will flow better) AND keeping heat out from the inside as well...
atleast in theory...

Re: making your own cold air intake (iviZeRoCooLivi)
I just got done yesterday making my own cold air intake with the instructions from the team delsol website. I ordered my mandrel bent piping, 35bucks shipped from JC whitney and got 4 2" hose clamps 1.85 a piece from Menards and a little rubber grommet and some hard plastic hose .45 from the local hardware store and I used the filter from my cheap *** APC short ram intake. Total investment Less than 50 bucks, I ceramic coated the piping inside and out and it looks great and works even better. I just couldnt believe how much power this thing made, It made more power than I expected, Best 50 bucks Ive ever spent on my car.
And after 25 minutes of hard driving the intake piping is actually really cool to the touch, So it must be doing its job.
I'm not sayin that it made like 15-20 hp but I could imagine that it made 3-5. Sounds great too. I am not used to a true CAI sound but I love it.
I highly recommend this project to anyone who is just too damn cheap to go out and buy a real AEM, Like Me

Cost me about $65 to make my "Team Del Sol" CAI for my 98 EX, performed just as good if not marginaly better than my Iceman or AEM CAI's..

Re: making your own cold air intake (sean)
I've had mine for about six months now, orderd the the pipe form JC Wittiny. I love it, and for only $70. you cant beat it. The thing performs great, sounds good too. A little advice to anyone who attemps to make this, don't use the 3/8 " piece of plastic and grommit. Istead weld a 3/8 " piece of steel to the tube, trust me works alot better. Good luck

Re: making your own cold air intake (DragonCTR69)
I understand where your coming from about the steel being a big heat sink, while the aem and other systems use a lightweight aluminum or plastic material. But aluminum heats up much quicker than the steel piping and when this happens the air tends to be heated up also. The thicker the steel the easier it is to keep it cool and the longer it will take to heat it up. I dont know man, I guess I just have my own theories and you have yours, Im not knockin on you I guess I just dont want somebody putting down a good thing, Hey can you find a good CAI for less than 70 bucks? I couldnt, so I made my own. I think its worth it.
