making my car lighter
okay im just curious, ive stripped a lot of cars for drag and ****, but i just wanan know what u think about 50 lbs would have effect on the speed? would it be a noticeable dif if 2 exact cars were goin at it but one was 50 lbs less... just curious
and also do smaller wheels make a big dif? comparing for ex the 15 inch with a 17 inch wheel.

they say that 100lb = 1/10 of a second. So your 50lb weight reduction is the equivalent of you shaving your legs before you go running. Useful for a race car where EVERY little bit counts. But not a big deal for a street car. Try taking a dump before you race. Not only for weight reduction...but for comfort.
Smaller wheels usually mean less weight. Less rotating mass will make your car noticeably faster. Smaller OVERALL diameter of wheels/tires has the same effect as lowering the gearing. Faster acceleration, slower top speed. 17s look stupid on civics anyway.

yep samlle wheels mean faster acceleration.. thats why most slicks come in 13 and 15 inch rim.. and cause 17's would look retarded lol
my car with my buddyclub 15s vs 16 inch rotas is a huge diff on a stock motor

well...slicks come in small diameter wheels because you want a bigger sidewall. You want the sidewall to crinkle instead of make the tread break away.

Have you ever noticed that the car is noticabley slower when you have one or more passengers. If you can shed the equivalent weight of the preferable passenger, the hot chick (110 to 120 lbs), or your Cheet-O eat'n best friend (220 lbs), then you'll notice a difference. Plus, when that person is back in the car, it'll be just as fast as it originally was. Also, you'll probably feel a bigger difference in handling than in accelleration. The car would be faster if you turn the A/C off than if you shed 50 lbs.
As far as the wheels go, it comes down to the concept of rotational inertia. The theory is that a wheel (in this instance) requires more and more power to rotate as the center of mass gets further from the center of the wheel (i.e. a larger diameter wheel). However, you'll then ask yourself, what if the larger wheel has significantly less mass than the smaller wheel? Right, then it should balance out. It's a matter of the mass to size ratio. But then again, if you find an aftermarket 17" wheel with less mass than the stock 15" then you can find an aftermarket 15" wheel with far less mass than the stock wheel. Larger wheels are simply for looks or for clearing large brake systems. And by the way, rotational inertia obviously applies to brakes and everything else for that matter.

If only things were this easy.
There are way more things to factor in that just weight. How bout automatic/manual, gear ratios, traction, power band, and driver error just to name a few.

its a question because im curious to see if someone could tell me anyting from past expiriences for ex, racing someone with same car but other car was lighter and seeing how much the lighter car won by.

Well, me and my friend have the same S2000. Same color....same mods....everything. It's really homosexual.
Even if I have a small person in my car, it makes a difference. 50lbs, however...is negligible.
I'd rather have my AC and my interior than go .1 seconds faster or something.
