make my h22 civic car pass california smog!
hi guys
im trying to do the best that i can do to make this pass smog. h22 civic 1996. right now it has no cat.
What would be (just quick advice) the best measures i could take to attempt to get this to pass smog? (ie: installing parts)
thanks!
EDIT: If anyone can help, or try, I wil allow them to download any album they want in MP3. Just give me the name of the album, i will buy it and let you download it. Its no problem really and costs me very little.
PPS: i jsut got the car from the dyno, and it only pulled 181 HP. I am a little disappointed in this, we were expecting over 200. I think there might be some things not correct still in the system. My guages dont read correctly either ... thats a different topic though

Re: (hazw8st)
To legitly pass smog with a swap you'll need to BAR the motor so here's what needs to be done.....(there's always paying some shady piece of **** 3-400 but if you get your hood popped you need to go see a ref anyways)
lets go down the list in order of importance....
GET A CAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-Is the motor the year of the car or newer?(If not....AUTOMATIC fail)
-Does it have the right ECU for the motor?(some refs don't look(of the 3 I went too when I had to BAR my motor 2 looked, 1 didn't), but for the ones that do is an AUTOMATIC fail if not)
-Are you running any jumper harnesses(ie: OBD 2A -> OBD 1)?(for the places that look....is an AUTOMATIC fail)
-If the motor is a newer OBD than the car, is everything converted to the OBD of the motor?(very important on passing BAR)
-Are there any aftermarket performance parts on the motor? (switch back to stock!)
-run seafoam
-get a NEW cat
-make sure the 02 sensor is working correctly
-full tuneup(oilchange, spark plugs, wires, cap/rotor)
that should be good for starters....
Basically the only way to legitly pass CA smog with a swap is to BAR the motor...not that hard, but can get very costly...trust me on that one .

Completely false.
A jumper harness is not something they can fail you on. If you have the right ECU, then that is all that matters. Obviously going backwards in OBD then you'll fail because the ECU would not be the right OBD.

The motor has to be running the correct OBD therefore a jumper harness wouldn't be necessary

No, if you put an OBD2 motor in an OBD1 car then a jumper harness would be used to have the proper ecu. You would still have some more wires to add of course, but a jumper harness here will not AUTOMATICALLY fail you.

Re: (squarepusher)
Nope your pretty much screwed. sorry to be so blunt but, the only way that'll "pass" is to pay some shady piece of ****.
You can always try just taking it to a regular smog place and hope that it passes and that the smog guy won't notice the swap(what most people try to do) but that success rate seems to be very small.

Re: (squarepusher)
If the head is stamped 9 and 5 than the 95 H22 would be from a 96 Prelude, you might be able to pass bar still.
if it is stamped 9 and 4 your outta luck.

Re: make my h22 civic car pass california smog! (hazw8st)
This smog thread doesn't make any sense, some people say it is really hard to smog swaps, yet, peeps keep vouching for hazw8st as the legal alternative. What gives? I have been hitting up hazw8st for a week now, and no response.... might be cause I am still a nooob! Anybody know hazw8st?

Re: make my h22 civic car pass california smog! (k20baller)
start posting music requests Gentlemen.
dont worry, I will purchase them legally from online music shops, keep this legit as possible.
Just put album / artist info.
Also, I am planning on heading up to see AMS_Mike, since i am in san diego, and he is in Orange COuntry. I plan to make a day of it (maybe this Dyno Day???), gotta head up there first thing in the mroning, get some work done, then drive home happy at night
I look forward to meeting him, he sounds extremely knowledagable.
