make my evo less loud?
got pulled over for not using turn signal then the cop decided to poo poo on my car. then he looked it over , said my lisence was covered up(it wass dirty). then said my exhaust was illegal. so after arguing w/ him for half an hour about db levels he gave me a warning and said to have it fixed /taken off or if he pulled me over again i would get a summons to court. so i need to make it less loud, anybody. it's a greddy evo, can i use a silencer or make one?

it's carb legal and stuff, but apparently you cant moddify your exhaust and it cant be louder than stock. i am gonna look more into this law cause bikes are mad loud and trucks and poo poo are crazy loud, i just dont wanna get stuck w/ a mad fine and stuff. but i need a bigger exhaust for my turbo so i might just have one made w/ a stock looking muffler

Dont believe him, he was probably just out to harrass you like so many po-po's are. Greddy EVO's arent even that loud, and you would have had to been above 4,000 RPM's for it to be even REMOTELY loud. Dont sweat it.

Has anyone actually tried putting this silencer on the EVO? I've got the greddy evo and even with turbo it's way too loud driving around town for my tastes

I don't know what to tell you about your state.
HOwever, CARB (California Air Resorces Board) doesn't matter in Maine, there fore don't worry about having a Carb number on parts you buy just make sure they are legal in your state.
IF you go to the Greddy website they have a print out for the CHP (california highway patrol) exhaust breifing/regulations. Print that thing off and carry it in your car. Try and make sure that there is not CHP stuff on there though.

Re: make my evo less loud? (clean)
When I got busted for my exhaust last summer (had a borla) for a modified exhaust, I decided to get a Greddy Evo. After I put it on, I went to the cops to get my ticket signed off. I told him that it was a 50 state carb legal exhaust, however he wanted to measure the decibles anyway. When he put up the meter to my exhaust, I was 8 db over. I was like what??!? It was due to my header he said. I was like FACK!! In order for the exhaust to be legal, everything else must be stock, sucks IMO. So i just put on a stock muffler and got it signed off.

Re: make my evo less loud? (Spade)
He measured it a couple of inches away from my exhaust. I was looking up on the Greddy site right now, and it said for it to be 20 inches away. I couldn't see exactly how far he was cause I had to rev the car up in 500 increments to 3500 rpm
here's a quote from greddy

here's a quote from greddy
Sections 1030-1036, 13 CCR, were intended to be used by Licensed Muffler Certification Stations as a means of deten-nining if an exhaust system met the requirements of the Muffler Certification Program (when those programs were operational). They specify testing procedures for motor vehicle exhaust noise alone (as opposed to total vehicle noise). This procedure specifies a limit of 95 dB(A) measured 20 inches from the exhaust pipe outlet with the engine operating in neutral, typically at a speed of 3000-5000 rpm. (For comparison, a modem rotary lawn mower with a 5-horsepower Briggs & Stratton engine typically emits approximately 93 dB(A) at the same distance at full speed under no load.) It applies only to passenger vehicles. It does not apply to motorcycles or to vehicles over 6000 pounds gross weight

Re: make my evo less loud? (unFOB4U)
20 inches.........hrm.........either way California lowered it to 86 db........
More and more I am looking at a custom exhaust with a huge resonator and muffler. (strait through of course)
