the one the runs to the engine bay harness runs to the thermostat ground.
the other... good question. Which car?
I have a feeling that it's an auto trans EK.

1994 honda civic ex ej1
i have a feeling i might need one more ground. when i was testing those two wires with a "test light" (probe attatched to some wire, that goes to a light that has a ground)
the clicking noise in the main relay went away and the CEL went away also. i took out all the accesories (except oil press/boost gauges, but those have the own individual grounds) so its stock and i dont understand why it would need an extra ground.

the auto trans cars have a ground wire that ran to the PCM. the manual trans shouldn't have a second wire.
But then agian honda did some odd things though out the years. A lot of which they didn't document very well.

what do you mean the clicking noise from the relay went away?
CEL is on? have you pulled the code?

for some reason the realy clicked spontaninously...i dont know why
there was a clicking noise that came from the realy just before the battery died. at first i figured that there was some sort of mis-wire or something but when i returned the harness back to stock, i had a solid CEL (which is usually atributed to the ECU, not so at all in this case)
i tried to "jump/pull a code" but with a solid CEL there was no blinking intrevals.
and when i was checking with a test light i found that when grounded the solid CEL would go away.

and the main relay wire that leads to the main harness is not the thermostat ground, its a ground just not for the thermostat.

*now today i relized that there were some extra grounds that were not, grounded. one was in the front by the drivers headlight, the other i believe is to the cigarette lighter (all 3 wires were cut as i dont smoke and needed to tap for power source) so i scuffed to bare metal and grounded em nice and tight. hopefully this works.

Does anyone know how to test the main relay once it is removed from vehicle? Like connecting the 1 to the 3 and then testing 2 and 4 or something like that?

Please create your own thread and also include car information and the problem that prompted you to test the main relay.
