ok, since the auto tranny is making my car slow like a ******* turtle. i will have to switch to a five speed next month. now i am going to buy me a B16 tranny.

is it worth the extra 200 bucks for the LSD?? (1000 bucks total)
or get the one without LSD and butin later??
or buy me a Civic Type R tranny that will cost me 1300 bucks?

so what you think guys.

i never had driven a five speed, so help me out. the auto gotta go so i can get my true power

if you auto-x the LSD is very worth it. i dont think the OEM LSD's do anything for accelleration, so it would be a waste if you only drag.

acually can you answer this question for me.. what is the main purpose of LSD other then 2 wheels spinning at the same time.

i had pausey on my chevy nova. is it the same thing as the nova or different in imports?

its basically the same idea, but i think Posi-Trac's are designed for accelleration. the honda OEM LSD's transfer power to the inner wheel during cornering, reducing understeer, etc... if you want something for acceleration, i'd bite the bullet and get a Quaiffe.

whats a Quaiffe?? and where can i get it?? sorry to ask, i don't know **** about five speed, just atuomatics

It's kind of a waste if you plan to just do regular daily driving, but if you plan to auto-x or road race on a course, then it's great. Drag... only good if you have a decent LSD diff, like a Quaife, but stock OEM isn't that good for drag, and not that strong either (I tried it and it really didn't help that much in a B16 CRX w/Y1 LSD). But, if you can get a stock OEM LSD tranny for $200 more, then go for it as a LSD diff by itself would normally cost more, and then you'd have to install it.

Quaiffe makes LSD's, unfortunately theyre about $850. you can get them from Endyn at http://www.theoldone.com or from Inline Four at http://www.inlinefour.com i'd suggest finding them on http://www.inlinefour.com and reading up on them, they have a pretty good description.

Quaife gearboxes are very well known in the UK, they specialise in custom 'boxes and supplied the LSDs to all the new Ford RS here. They do bits for a B16 so they are worth looking up

Used as the center differential in the Honda Wagon. Also used by other cars
such as Porsche 959 (center diff), Nissan SR20DE (NX2000, SE-R, Infiniti G20),
Diamond Star Motors Eclipse/Talon/Laser AWD (center diff). Uses special fluids
that thickens quickly when one axle starts to spin. Response is slightly retarded
but works great as the center diff. As a FWD diff it works okay, better than
a open diff any day!

If you autocross, the LSD is worth every penny and minute spent sweating the install if you did it yourself.

I ran my first auto-x last weekend with the LSD I installed a few months ago. Amazing...

I have a hard time believing that a gear type LSD "will not work with 1 wheel in the air"

-yes it's worth it.....
-you'll pay more than the original price to install it later
- i don't think the b16b trans has any different gear ratios than a reg. b16a trans, just the added lsd. driven with both, so.....

if you're even considering getting another trans equipped with lsd, wait...save more money if need to, and buy the itr with 4.785 fd and lsd. this trans is awesome for a b16!!!!!!!!

I don't remember the website, it was a collection of so called "facts". I saved it a long time ago. It covers a LOT of info and everything has been accurate in as far as my knowledge goes. But I don't have LSD... It does mention Honda has warnings/recommendations about the care of their LSD trannies. Maybe someone with one could shed some light on it?

$200? Where are you getting this tranny? Some places just install the "phantom grip" type conversions. Make sure its a real LSD (unless you're ok with phantom grip, but make sure you know what you're getting).

IMO, $1300 is too much for a Type R tranny. I bought a used tranny with a quaiffe from another HT'er for that price.
