Default LSD transmission question

Can I just buy limited slip differential and put it my stock transmission?

There is something wrong with my stock differential... some humming noise appears... so I was wondering if I can just replace the stock one with the LSD or I will have to buy the whole LSD tranny...

The transmission is stock DX (D16Y7 - year 1996)

My next question would be... Where to get LSD and what would be the price??? cos I searched and found nothing at all...

Yes you can.
Suggest a quaife lsd but, they cost 800 roughly.

You can pick up a Used EX tranny for less than 400 typically.

Yes, but here where I live, there are tons of ******** who do nothing more than *****ing people over and practicaly stealing their money...

I found 5 EX tranny's that after all WEREN'T EX tranny's... can you see my point?

One of the guys even tried to sell me 89's civic DX cable tranny (he said it was the 96 EX)... so you see what kind of people I have to deal with!!!

Thank god for the tranny codes and the H-T knowledge...

Thanx for the reply!

I see. That bites.

Okay, there are a few out there to choose from then.

Quaife and Kaaz are the common ones. Kaaz is cheaper but uses a special tranny fluid and it's quite pricey.

OBX has a new LSD that sells for like $300 on ebay and comes with a decent warranty. The quality is still questionable, as OBX is known for cheap copies. Their LSD unit is a copy of the Quaife LSD.

I personally have the Kaaz LSD and love it! The fluid is a bit pricey and with my carbon synchros, you have to change the $45 fluid every 5-6k miles.

You do have to reshim the diff when installing it. I did buy a cheap spare tranny to swap in the diff, and when my friend tore apart the tranny, first thru third gear were wasted, and the previous owner claimed only a slight thrid gear grind....yeah...right!!!!!!

So I used it as a core and had a tranny built by Gear Speed, they installed my LSD for me.
