Default Ls/Vtec vs poor man's type r

I'm basically wondering what do you guys think is better for a reliable dailydriver/fast car. I'm planning to go all motor here. I don't really kno how much about these just that ls/vtec consists of b18b1 block with b16 head and poor man's type r consist of b18c1 block and b16 head with type r internals. I just wanted to see your guys' opinion on these two motors.

def poor man's r - oil squirters

the only benefit of th ls/vtec is the slightly longer stroke... i'd def take the reliability of the gsr block over that anyday.

wait why would you put a B16 head onto a GSR block with stock internals? wouldnt the compression drop? as fasr as i now the combution chambers on the P72 head are tigher and causing slightly higher compression with the P72 pistons in the B18c1 block

maybe im just wrong lol

ur right, a b16 or itr head on a gsr block is lower compression than a gsr head on a gsr block.

you are correct sir, that's why uo would have to replace the p72 pistons with the itr ones or wlse the ctr pistons. What I did was replaced the p72 with some itr pistons and that should raise the com back up.

I love to hear people say ls-v isnt reliable. Of course it wont be reliable when some kid does a half as build and wants to rev to 10 k daily
b20 vtec imo

I'm just wondering - what's the rest of their setups, ie shell, gutted/street car, other mods? The guy who does most of the swaps & trannies around here has an eg with built ls/vtec - he hit 12.9 with a pinch of 50shot in 3rd, usually low 13's w/o.

If you do it right, almost anything can be reliable. Same for if you treat it right. I doubt a poor man's type r could be bounced off a 10k redline in ever gear ever day as a daily driver. It might last a tad longer, only because of the piston speed, the rod strength, and oil squirters. Forged pistons diminish the need for squirters and can be coated if you really want to go all-out.

For the price and a heavy car, [LS or CR-V]/Vtec, for a car with lots of supporting mods, PM's Type-R. There's just something about vtec pulling all the way past the stock tach's upper limit...

why not use the LS crank and rods. in the gsr block? get the rods milled down and get some ctr pistons. and get tuned. Did a simular setup 7.7@ on slicks 1/8mile. daily driver
