Use the search button on this, theres a ton of threads on this exact thing. I might say ls/vtec because of your budget though, remember their only as good as the builder building them

U should leave a link for him man! But i have wanted a good ls vtec in my car! I think that would be the way to go. I think ive heard somewhere that the b16a head is better flowing. But i dont kno if it would have more power than a gsr?

"Keep on rockin' your B16 untill you can afford to get it done the right way." would be my first awsner... Build it right the first time or else you'll just be pissing the money away in the long run. Afterall it's spring time and I am one who would just want to go out and enjoy the warm weather then worry about my engine going or not going. I've watched far too many people go cheap on stuff just to get it done fast ratheir then wait and plan it out to get it done right.
Now if you took the time to prepare the LS block for the high rpms it will surely see then yes I'd say go for it. Otherwise, I'd say sell your B16 to make a profit off of it and get a GSR motor. Perhaps go the extra mile and get a type-r motor or even a k20.

Hum, good Info! I think I'll buy the B18c1 from H-motors.........Poor Mans Type R seems like a good idea. You guys think I could avoild less work for instance preping the bottom block of a LS (LS/Vtec) or is this simple bold on with out work?????

You would be much better off putting an LS crank into a GSR block, than slapping a vtec head onto a non-vtec block and running all sorts of crap off it to make it run correctly...
I seriously cannot stand these types of threads. How many people have to ask the same kind of crap before you realize that its completely personal preference. If youre that easily swayed I hope you dont vote.
