LS Motor Vin numbers
Hey everyone, Ive been rolling around with my lsvtec for roughly a year and half and been pulled over at least once that I can remember.. Being in in CA and the high theft risk we have i thought it might be a good idea to roll around with a carfax in relation to my tranny as well as the motor. Only probelm is i dont know where the hell to find it?
Ive heard that OBD1 LS blocks didnt have them, and OBD2 did... Mine i believe is a 98. I got it from a friend who spun a bearing and so I had to rebuild it for my lsv conversion before dumping it in. Im not sure where to find it now that the motor is in. Apparently they're in the rear somewhere but Im not seeing anything.. Thanks in advance.

Re: LS Motor Vin numbers (Thateguhate)
i believe they only came on 96+ vechiles and the 95 and under had a little sticker or tag on the tranny. there shud be one on the tranny right by the b18 stamp and then one right above the oil pan behind the header.

Re: LS Motor Vin numbers (eg_boi)
I was told this and when i looked i either am missing something, or its not in clear view... I got under there as much as i could and didnt see it. Looked at everything lined up with the oil filter. hmmmm wonder if its a 94-95 then..
anyway of telling the year by the serial #?
I looked it up by the serial # online and came up with nothing, it was a site CHP provides to check for stolen property. Nothing showed, but I dont wanna give up too soon until i know its year, and what not.

they're not in the back, they're in the front. if you have a 96+ b series tranny you should see the vin. if it's not there you should at least see the 2 holes that the vin shud be screwed into.
this pix shows where the block vin is suppose to be in that little block circle i made
