Constant, loud whine at idle --sometimes-- when I pop the hood and take out the dipstick it releaves pressure and goes away. Kind of like pshh.....put it back in and wait for it to slowly come back. What's the deal here?

Like a whistle? Check for cracked vaccum hoses, or a gasket. You can do it by eye, or take some carb cleaner and lightly spray it around until you can hear the engine rev. Then you know whatever it is you hit, needs to be fixed.
Try the PCV first too tho.

ex-nay on the whine, yes it's whistling at me. Why is it building pressure like that and whistling out the....dipstick? Or is that just one of the many places it can release pressure?

like i said, its a cracked hose or gasket. Air is getting sucked into the engine from a place its not supposed to be, thus a whistle.
Or a stuck PCV valve.

The PCV rattles when I shake it, most people agree this means it works, and I didn't see any cracked vacuum hoses. It doesn't do this while I'm out driving, which is good because it's loud. Has anyone had a similar problem?
