LOST KEYS!!! How do I get a new one?
I lost my keys on my ship (navy) and they were my only set, one key for the door and one for the ignition, does anyone know a good way to get another set? Or will I pretty much have to go to a dealership and get one made? Also does an engine swap matter? I have a 92 cx hatch with a JDM B18c. Let me know...Thanks
Bobby

well thanks for that, but does anyone know how much it will cost to have a key for my ignition made at the dealership?

its free here. sometimes they charge you for the key sometimes they dont.. It wont be more than a couple bucks.. The problem is this, why dont you have matching locks? My guess would be at sometime that car was stolen so they had to replace the original ignition so even if you do get a key made it will allow you into the car..

Re: (Ls_V_TurboSi)
well I pretty much only bought the car for the motor, I was charged 2,850 for the car and it came with a $1400 suspension, tanabe catback exhaust and aem s/r air intake. The car came with 2 seperate keys and a salvaged title so you're probably right, I don't care though, I am buying another shell anyways, one w/ a clean title.

Re: (h22hatchswp)
I don't think it's expensive at all. A buy a lot of parts from a local Honda dealership, and last time I needed replacement keys for a daily driver I bought, they just made me the keys for free.
...they were probably free because I give them so much business and they usually discount my purchases anyway, but I doubt he would have given them to me for free if they were over $25.
To put it in perspective, it cost me $50 to get a new key for my old BMW Z3 at the dealership...There's no way a plain Honda key is costing $50. But that's just speculation, I guess.
You will need the registration, and your ID. If the original ignition is not in the car, and the car was salvage-title, the keycode will have been changed and you will probably need the car present at the dealership in order for them to pull the keycode off of it

Like I said, if the original ignition was replaced, the keycode tied to the VIN number may be different or may have been changed due to the fact that it may have been stolen in the past.
You'll have to talk to your local dealership for details.

take your registration or pink slip to the dealership and they will make you a key for $8.00. but you might have a problem if the ignition is different from the locks. they make the key based on the vin #. and the ignition is from a different car/vin #. just call them tomorow and ask them

why would your engine possibly have anything to do with your keys? I'm not trying to be a smart ***, but i'd really like to know your thought process on that question.
and if you're lucky they changed the (2)doors rather then the (1)ignition, i dont know the price but i hope for your sake.

Registration (which has your name and vin #) and driver's license (as proof as the name on the registration matches the name on your license, and you are who you say you are. The key price is very very cheap for hondas.
50 bucks for a Z3 BMW??
My GTI key (the remote key) was like $250 when it was took fresh, cut, then chipped (they have to put a chip in it that's programmed to your car), if you try a different key than the one that's made for it, the car goes into lockdown mode, you have to have it towed to the dealership for them to unlock it with a computer (locks, ignition is disabled, radio locked, everything)
Honda keys are nothing like that..

With you it would be better to call a lock smith and have them cut the keys, you said you have 1 for the door and 1 for the ignition. Which one is the original and matches the vin?

well judging from the key from my ignition and the key for my doors it looked like the key for my ignition was the original. I'm pretty confident the ignition was really screwed with. But I don't know for sure...like I said it was a salvaged title and I pretty much bought the car for parts...I will probably go with a locksmith for the key for the doors.

I just now lost both my remote keyless entry for my em1, can the dealership program another one? Also, i only had the "valet" key that wouldn't open my trunk, can they cut me another master?
