Default looking for a new very quite muffler

I know it says noob but I really have been a lurker on here for years and years. This is the first time a have not been able to get a good answer to what I want. The search function on this site really makes me want to brake things some times. since It wont include quite I just have to ask.

I have an old obx muffler on my car now. its been there for about 4-5 years and looks fine but after the first year it just kept getting louder and louder. Now it is starting to rattle at stop light and at this point I am pretty much embarrassed to drive my car. I used to autoX but its just a daily driver now days with the standard bolt ons. I have 2 inch pipe on it (or 2 and a half) inch its been years since I did it) and I would rather have it less loud even if I have to loose a bit of performance.

I want to spend about a hundred bucks on a new muffler. Right now I am leaning towards the ES Tuning muffler since some have said its not to loud and its a decent price. any other thoughts? I also need to know who has the best price on what. it seems all the old websites I used to order from are dead and gone now.

es isnt that quiet

you would be very well off to get a stock muffler/rear section - possibly rsx or itr

I am thinking anything "aftermarket" is not going to be very quiet, I think stock will be your best bet.

I put on a WS2 axle back a little bit ago and was shocked at how quiet it was...can't even hear it at idle and expressway driving is like stock.

This is with header, full 2.5" piping, high flow cat, and no resonator...so if you can find a used axle back that's never a bad way to go.

I've heard with ES oval mufflers you still need to add a resonator to make it quiet...so don't know if you wanted to do that...but stock rsx type s 04+ and itr mufflers are great choices as well.

I would prefer something that makes slightly more noise than stock.

Yea but for some reason they stopping me just by them glancing that i have a aftermarket exhaust ( State Troopers ). They say that it's illegal to have a exhaust that is not factory, and this is wether im loud or just cruising. 3 tickets @ $ 80 = $240 + a day in court + court fines that's $$ i could've used for something else.... damn PIGS !!

^^ exactly... Im running an ES muffler with 2.25" piping/cat/resonator and its not loud, but its definitely not "stock" quiet. Driving on the freeway in 5th gear, going about 75mph I can hardly hear the damn thing. It has a nice low tone at lower rpm's and can get a little noisey at WOT, but thats to be expected with any "aftermarket" exhaust. I have had many exhaust setups in the past, and received alot of attention and tickets living in California. Since i have switch over to my ES I haven't had one cop behind me or even pull me over... then again its helps to have a Sheriff license plate frame too

If you want somethin a little louder than stock, I'd go with a twin loop. I'm getting mine installed next week. 2.5 pipping with a resonator just cuz I want it quieter at low rpms.

I don't get it tho cuz your name says Turbo EG. You should be looking for a 3 inch exhaust. If you went that route I'd say Megan Drift Spec. Best sounding exhaust I've heard in a long time

You should get the RSX muffler, it's very quiet and sounds good. A little bit more free flowing than stock I believe.

Ive got the ES. I use it with DC headers, Catco CAT, SKunk2 Midpipe (2.25), and a custom fit E.S axleback, and its pretty much stock quiet under normal driving if im not hitting VTEC. A stock 06' SI is louder on the inside than my car. I really dont see how one could consider it loud, i have never been harassed once for it by the cops.

If you have any relatives that were PO's or Detective etc. just ask them where to make a donation to the Sheriff's foundation... its $50 or so and they give you two frames, trust me... it really helps out.
