Looking for new Honda - EM1 or EK Hatch?
hey guys i recently got rear ended and now im looking for a new honda. if i get a coupe again i want an si but ive always loved the way a clean ek hatch looks. i found a clean ek with a b16 for 5500 http://miami.craigslist.org/brw/ctd/1998099151.html
is it worth it you think?
should i go with that or a si.
my plans for both are gonna be boosting it.
how much hp can a stock b16 handle?

This is like asking what color you should get---it's all just personal preference.
I personally like ek coupes, because I think they just flow better. Nothing against hatchbacks, but I just like the way the coupes look better. So that's what I'd get.

But FWIW, I personally prefer the 96-98 climate controls.

Agreed on the climate controls. Yes they levers might seem out-dated, but in comparison, the huge hole in the dash looks out of place to me on the 99+.
Back on topic, again obviously personal preference, but if you are looking for opinions... my personal opinion is a hatch, but I'm biased since I picked one up.
The coupes are growing on me though.

i prefer a hatch. i just like the interior on the em1 more.
SI seats might not be GSR leathers, but they're better than the base model stuff.

Si seats are the worst ones ever. Who the hell cares about those? The cluster? Big deal, go buy one and put it in the hatch. Same with the climate control and dash if you are REALLY set on having those items. Anything can be moved over. I have power windows, locks, mirrors and keyless entry (factory) in my EK hatch. Just all depends on what you like.

I'd go with the hatch, the one you are looking at looks incredibly nice from here and $5500 is a good deal for a 2000, you'd expect to pay more than that for an EM1. As far as the seats go i find the Si seats largely uncomfortable and in no way a deal maker or breaker.

I won't ell you which way to go, i've had both cars...but will list the plus's for going with the Si that other people haven't mentioned, and you can think about what's important to you........with the Si:
- power sunroof
- nice oem cluster
- leather steering wheel
- rare model (only made 2 years)
- less prone to rust
- cruise control
The hatch you posted is pretty nice. Hopefully nothing bad is hiding under that paint job, and the only other thing is the wheels are a little big at 17", otherwise, i like it

over here in germany i'm dreamin' of a 99/00 si coupe, since over here a 2dr civic was never offered as a dohc vtec... i would love to have a supersonic blue si... just my opinion...

The seats are exactly the same as any 96-00 Civic except for the fabric pattern. They suck just as bad. The cluster is unique, I'll give you that, but you can plug and play that anyways if you want. The interior color came in other trims also. And the hatch he posted is a 2000.

in any case, not considering price, i think we'd all take an em1 over the base model coupe. i'm just making a point on the fact that it's just a nice overall car. i'd still take a clean hatch before an em1 because an ek hatch has a lot of sentimental value to me.
