Looking to go Honda soon (EK).. Educate me
Hello to all the Honda-Tech people.. Im new to this forum and soon to be new to honda!
Im on a search for a 99-00 EK coupe, or a 97-98 with the 00 front or possibly a hatchback with the 00 front end conversion. If worst comes to worst, I'll settle for a dx model coupe though I want the sunroof.
What are some known problems with these cars that I should be looking for when buying used? Im already shocked that I cant find a clean civic for under or at $3000 but maybe then again in South Fla this is a hot car still and maybe I'm being picky. Any info you can provide will help greatly! I just want to find something already so I can start upgrading it!!

It depend what the car used for.. If it your daily drive i wouldn't customizing too much by putting aftermarket parts. The Oem parts last longer. A car for under $3000 to me don't seem to be a good car for daily drive. You might have some other issuse sometimes driving it down the road. Just my opinion..

I guess more so the fact of the age of the car and what I expected to be a reasonable price. I'm just looking for clean body and running for a DD. I have plans further as most people do, but I'm just looking for the foundation. I know anything used is going to need a few odds and ends but for example. I dont see payin 3500 for a car then im going to have to drop the tranny in 2 months.

"Most" people price accordingly. But you get what you pay for. First thing you have to do...use ej8 and em1 or some will eventually flame you. Every thing works great and even if it didn't then it will work like **** but will still work. Civics are usually the first cars that ricers/racers/posers/amatures/first timers go for so your gonna have to check just about everything to see if it meets your standard. Check the fuses, main relays, ecu, exhaust, shifter assembly, sensors, ball joints, outer tie rods, ebrake and for smoking out the muffler. Upgrade the parts that are most worn. Replace alternator and distributor.

once you get one install a kill switch and get at least comprehensive coverage...the worst thing about a honda is everyone wants one!
