longblock is the engine and the tranny, shortblock is just the engine and complete swaps is everything you need to put it in your car...(ecu, axels and etc.)

actually longblock is just the bottom block and head, short block is just the bottom block and a complete swap is tranny, longblock (head & block) axles, ecu, etc.

Generally (this is coming from V8 experience), a shortblock is just a block with pistons, rods, crank, bearings, etc all assembled.

A longblock is a shortblock plus a cam, heads, and valvetrain...

i have a b16a2 im looking to replace with another
so the long block is basically the entire motor ?

would it be more effective to have an engine rebuild ?
or just replace the entire longblock ?
i already have a b16 tranny, axles, ecu

That depends on whats wrong with the motor..If it was me, i would keep the head and buy a gsr or type r bottom block and build a poorman's type r motor.

sorry about the mix up with the longblock shortblock Q's...it was to my understanding from people on this site that it was like that.
