Is it legal to swap my 92' civic hatch cx w/ newer civic engine?
Sup, I'm a newbee to honda-tech, but does anyone know if it's legal to swap a 92' civic with like a 93' and up engine? If it is, would i pass smog? I was thinking of swapping it with a 93' or 95' si? Any information or advice would be appreciated.

you can swap any honda motor in there you want as long as it is a 92 or newer...if you want a NSX motor go ahead...but in all seriousness you can put a motor in there as long as it as all the factory components like it came in the car it came out of. then get it BARRED! since your in Cali to make it legal.....my car is Barred i have a 94 EG with a B18C1...im near you so jut let me know

Doesn't it have to be OBD-II or something for it to be legal.
Not that anyone will really notice problably. I'd do it anyway.

nope since your car is a 92 u need to get a motor that was made from 92-presant. doesnt have to be obd 2. id stay with obd 1 since the car was obd 1. also OBD 2 sux IMO cause it reminds me of an environmentalist.

Re: (JDMlifestyle)
you can put a obd2 motor in a 92 civic no problem. any gsr motor 94-2001 will bolt into your car no problem and even the OBD2 engine harness aong with obd2 injectors, distributor, altenator. the integra engine harness plugs right into the 92-95 civic shock tower harness. i have done 3 of these swaps for freinds and they all have no problems. then you can just plug up a obd1 p72, p30 or chipped p28 ecu into your car and wire up the necessary vtec wires. there are many threads on this just search a little bit.

So Like you said any 92 or newer models. I'm like in the same boat as g_d, but I have a 93 CX. I guess mine is non-vtech/OBD1. My question is, would it be easier to just swap in a b18c5/OBD1 rather than the OBD2. Also I did use the "SEARCH" and gathered lots of usefull info but still kind of lost as far as why use a "chipped/stock" P28 rather than the ecu that came with the JDM engine. BTW I'm weighing more on buying JDM ITR engine than USDM just because of rarity and price. So if I acquired a JDM b18c5 would I still be able to pass smog taking in consideration of my stock airbox from my ITR.

Re: (blurr1)
if you have a full swap from a 96 and up gsr/itr just drop it in as it came out of the inetgra. everythig will bolt up just like it did in the integra. do not take any of the OBD2 equipment off the motors leave everything on teh motor including the engine harness as if you just pulled it out of the car. once you drop the motor in the engine harness will plug up into teh 92-95 civic shock toewr harness like iit is supposed to. all u have to do is wire up the vtec wires like you have to anyways. then just run a obd1 vtec ecu like a p72 (gsr) p30 (delsol b16) or chipped p28. BAM crank that bitch up and see. TOM (B18C5-EH2) has this same setup in his 92 hatch. he was the one who wrote a whole topic on how to do this. its archived but its there. it can be done
PS the only thing that is bad about this and i doubt its really that bad..... but since u keep all teh obd2 **** like distributor, injectors, altenator. if you ever have to replace them u have to use OBD2 parts. lol so if u need new injectors u need obd2 ones and so forth for the other parts. thats all. reason being is because the obd1 injectors, altenator, and distributor will not plug into the new obd2 harness.

then how do you explain people with 96+ civic's swapping in JDM B16 engines?

Re: Is it legal to swap my 92' civic hatch cx w/ newer civic engine? (b00st)
The question was if the car will pass smog if swapped. The answer is yes, as long as the motor is the same or newer than the chasis. Of course a 96 hatch can swap a b16 (same year or even older).... duh! THis is about smogging issue.. not swapping issue...
