Are L and R axles the same?

I ordered new axles for my civic and instead to getting a left and a right I got two rights. Would a right side axle work on the left side of my car?

different sizes it wont work definately if its a d series with no equal length axles

Unless you have the half shaft on the d, they are different. Some d's had the half. I doubt yours does.
