KYB AGX's or Tokico Illumina?
I'm deciding between buying kyb agx struts or tokico illumina struts. both are adjustable..i think the kyb'sare 4 way adjustabl and the tokico's are 5 way. if anybody has had any experience with these...let me know...and by the way...i have tein springs so if anybody knows if they will go better with one of the struts mre than the other one..it would be very helpful.

I would go with the Koni yellows. But the Tokico Illuminas are pretty good also. The kyb agx is a shock thats not recommended for drops lower than 1.5inches. You won't see any of the bigger companies such as Eibach using kyb due to that. Their all package with tokico's.
So your option here is to go with the illuminas. Remember to use the boot cover for the shocks or the illuminas will blow out on you within a few months. Some people don't know that you need them and blame that it's a bad shock. Your supposed to take them off your old shocks, if there too worned out then you have to buy new ones. The purpose of the boot cover is to protect the shock from dirt, sand, water etc. BTW, the kyb's come with new boot covers and tokico's don't.

If price ever enters into your mind to get the KYBs over the Tokicos, then just get the non-adjustable Tokicos. Not everyone needs to spend money on an adjustable shock/strut.

just get teh KYBs.. since your on Tein's anyway.. thats barely a drop at all.. the Tokico Iluminas are good too. the blues are just stock replacement.. so in other words.. they suck ***.. Koni yellows are probably best to be honest.. get what you can afford of those three.. that would be my recomendation.

I have the AGX's with Ground Control's and the ride is nice and firm. And just because they aren't warrantied for a drop lower than 1.5" doesn't mean they can't handle it. My car has been lowered much more than that for over 2 years and I haven't had any problems whatsoever out of the struts...and by much more I mean slightly tucked in the front and zero gap in the rear...with 15" rims. I think the AGX's are great quality for the price.

illuminas though i hesitate to recommend the tokico springs. i have their "advanced handling supsupension kit" and their springs don't drop the car as much as other brands. handles like a dream though.

well price isn't too much of an issue...i can get them on a monthly payment plan from sportcompactonly.com but...im just curious as to which would suit my car and springs better...my car is dropped quite a bit so i guess the agx's are out of the question. i guess im going to go with the illuminas tho...where i could find the boot that protects the struts? where can i buy them at? and do i just slide them on when i put on the new struts?

Look at my avatar. That's hella pitch. That's with Illuminas and whatever Tokico springs you can get with them. I wasn't too overly impressed.

Just curious: Is that caused by what spring-rates you have? Or the setting the damper is on? Or both... or Niether... Sorry if these are stupid questions, but I know nothing about suspension.

I'm not sure exactly of what the spring rates were. I had the front struts set to 4 and the rears set to 2. I'm guessing it was the spring rates, but I'm not for certain.

I just picked up some AGX's from these guys:
http://importsolutions.net/
for $280, but have yet to put them on. They will be matched with my Ground Controls.
No way in hell I was gonna be able to afford $500 for shocks, so I went with the AGX. I know several people with them and they are awesome for the dollar.

Well, if price isn't an issue, get the Koni Yellows then. They are the best. And like I said before, the AGX's can handle the drop, at least for me they did and still are perfoming great after 2 years. Car rides good, handles good, doesn't bounce at all, and they are stiff as a **** on the highest settings. I usually ride around with the fronts on 2 or 3 and the rears on 5. I dunno....works for me. Good luck with your decision.

You should have the fronts set stiffer as there is no weight in the back of your vehicle. I'll bet if you switch them to 5 on the front and 2/3 on the rear you'll notice you were understeering a bit. Unless of course 5 is the softest on AGX's.

Re: (JimmyAtlantis)
why would making the rear softer, and front stiffer make it handle better? in terms of understeer... in a FF that is... if that were true, then why do people use rear sway bars?
The front I would think needs more grip so a softer front suspension vs rear should help it grab more .. am I not right? Would this not more effectively transfer weight in turn?
