Are Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 tires the best for the dollar?
I need to get some rubber (205/45/16) for my Rota C8's that will be in next week.
I had the Kumho 712's (205/40/17) on my 98 LX. Never found anything I didn't like about them. The car had NO go, so I couldn't tell you if they would preform well with power under the hood. That is why I need some input. My Eg will have a GSR motor sometime in January and I need a tire that will give me good tread life, good sticky for street/drag racing, and that's about all I ask. ...and under $400 for the set
Are the Kumho's what I am looking for?
If there is a thread that covers this (what I am asking), I will be glad to delete this one.
PS <> Anyone thought about doing a tire FAQ? I think that would really help a lot of people out (Including myself). There is so much to cover with tires and I think it would be the perfect topic for a FAQ thread

For a daily driver tire, I don't think you can get much better than the 712s.
Cheap, great in the rain, good in the dry, 280 tread life.

The kumhos are good, my friend has some on his probe. I was gonna get some but he said why dont you try the sumitomos, cuz he wasnt too impressed with the kumhos. So i got them, and they're really good. I think they're like $2 more per tire, or something like that. I think the Sumitomos look cooler too.
The best performance tire around this price is the falken azenis, those are amazing. I really really wanted some, but they didnt make my size, same as yours (205/45-50/16). I was pissed.

The kumhos are great for the price, and the performance. I have them on my car and I cant think of any complaints.

Look into Yokohama AVS ES100. I've heard only good things about these and they are the same price as the Kumho 712s.

They're comparable to the A520 (I've had both tires in the same size on my car), but not quite as grippy. HOWEVER, they're much more drivable- they make a TON of noise at the limit, and when they break loose in a corner, they do so very smoothly. It's a very easy tire to drive and I'd say that they're great for anyone getting into road racing (on a track, dummy) because they're so well behaved at the limit and give you lots of warning before they break free. And they're great in the rain, don't make any noise, are cheap as hell, and last forever.

My dad has them on his 95 Eclipse GS-T. He said he loved them untill he drove with them in the snow, whereupon he developed a profound hatred for them....
Keep in mind, that's not my first hand experience, just what I've been told, but Hey? If you can't trust your own Dad?.........

I'm on my third set of Kumhos and don't have a single complaint about them. I've gone through two sets of Ecsta Supra 712's and just bought a set of Ecsta 711's. The Tire Rack has the 205/50 R15's for $37 each. So far they are just as good or better than the 712's. For the price, you can't go wrong.
