knocking sound around 2krpm plus, high temp...
first off the car is a 93 si, stock motor with 117k on it.
this afternoon i noticed my temp gauge was a little higher then normal on my way to get some food doing about 70ish on the highway. i didnt think much of it because its really ******* hot out today. after i was done eating i went to start the car and it took a second. then i heard a knocking come from the motor at a little more then 2krpm and the more i would press the gas the louder it got. i also noticed doing anything abouve 45mph on the way home would cause the temp gauge to rise way above normal so i would keep pulling over to keep it down. once i got into my town doing 30-45 the temp gauge stayed steady but still a little above normal. also the gas gauge was acting funny, as if i was on the gas all the way it would drop down then come back up but i never went above 3-4krpm... i also checked the oil since i am due for an oil change this week and it was a little lower then it should be so i put some in...
any help, suggestions, answers would be great. thanks
EDIT: video clip of the sound... hope it works.

so i just went outside to check something and the car didnt start up on the first try. let it sit for a few second and tried turning it over again and it went no problem. the knocking, tapping sound seems to be coming from the middle/right side in the back so it sounds...

Re: (electric-boost)
The fuel gauge has nothing to do with this problem...Sounds like a headgasket...from personal experience...Did moisture come outta the exhaust after you finally got it started?

headgasket can cause knocking? i didnt check the exhaust, all i did was look back while driving to make sure no odd smoke or anything was coming out.

im not sure of your problem but just to clear something up... temp guages dont read hotter or colder whether its super freezing out or super hot... it maintains a predetermined temperature... if it gets hotter than that temp it cools it down, if it gets colder than the temp then it doesnt cool it as much...
not sure if you know how thermostats work or not... basically they have a wax peelet in them that melts at a pretermined temperature... when you start your car after letting it rest over night... it heats up quickly because no coolant is flowing... but once it reaches operating temperature that wax thing melts and coolant flows... if the engine gets too hot, thats when it kicks on the fan (which is usually only at idle)... then when you turn it off the wax becomes solid again...

wax?
dont think theres wax in a thermostat.. its just a spring... when metal heats up it expands.. and a spring because its coiled it wants to expand. but to expand it has to uncoil...
i dont believe a bad headgasket causes knocking noises... knocking noise could be your bearings in the crank (not likely though)... or your valves... or most likely your injectors (they click, and when they get old they get loud)...

Re: (slowsinglecam)
headgasket from personal experience, it will get worse if you keep driving on it. I'm not sure about the knocking noise though but my guess would be a injector but you woulud throw a code if you had a misfire so i'm not to sure. Ill see if i can think up anymore **** but it seems that everybody mentioned it already

ok i took a short and shitty video of the sound, all i have is a shitty cybershot but you clearly get the sound so thats all that matters. im thinking/hoping its just the injectors... anyone know where i can host a video, its only like 255kbs or if i can send it to someone...
