So ive been hearing good and bad things about putting a kill switch to shut off ignition or fuel pump. is it really worth putting in?

i went to an audio place and they said they dont recommend them because eventually the wires can fail and somehow your switch will fail or trigger and you could be on the road driving 80mph and youre fuel pump will dies on you. sounds logical but same here... i thought they were a good thing. i wonder if this has happened to anyone before.

Duh, if your using the wrong gauge wires and switches (or relays) which can't handle the amperage it will do that. That is why you do it correctly in the first place. If that audio place's philosophy was true then I don't think there would be many electronics in cars in the first place.

i used 14ga wire and 30a switch and never had any problems, you only need relay if you add resistance from wires, but thicker wires give 0 resistance in a 3-4ft circuit.
i guess the only bad side is that if someone borows your car you have to go and activate the switch, other than that its just the cheapest, reliable and one of the hardest security features to detect.

Nonsense.
If your fuel pump fails on you at 80mph, worst thing that will happen is you will coast to a stop. People pretend like your engine will run lean and blow up. Those people try to figure things out with their imagination instead of from a textbook. If your switch fails, you can easily bypass it since you know where it is.
Of course an audio shop would have lots of problems with wires failing on them. The vast majority of those kinds of shops do crap wiring.
The reason they're telling you this is because there's no money in it for them. There's virtually no margin on selling you a switch, and how much labor can they charge you for 15 minutes of work? They're overblowing the possible consequences because for that little margin, even a slight liability isn't worth it.
You shouldn't rely on a killswitch alone btw.

If you do it right, you should have no problems with a kill switch. And if you do have problems, they are easy to trouble shoot.
